Children of the World Storyboook Bible

We have several kid Bibles, but this one might be one of my favorites, since all the artwork is done by children! I love that it connects with kids on another level with the artwork. The Bible stories are a nice length for short attention spans, without being too short for those of us who are older. The recommended age for this is 5-8, but I think it works well for my 4 year old as well.

Wild and Wacky things in the Bible

This book is a great one for kids ages 6-9. It makes the Bible fun, since it shows some of the fun facts in the Bible. My daughter and I are enjoying learning more about talking donkeys, the Egyptian plagues, and all the other fun things that make the Bible so unique. This is a great book to stimulate conversations!

That's So Weird

This one has been a great one to keep in my purse to entertain the kids on trips or a recent recital we had to attend! The pictures are fun, since there are a lot of animals and just interesting stories to go along with facts like what Moses' basket was made out of or who had the shortest reign out of the kings in the Bible. This one if for ages 5-8, but is also great for kids a little younger too, since the facts are short and to the point, so you can tailor things to a younger age.

What's the Bible All About?

I was pleasantly surprised with this little board book! It is a fun way to talk to your children about what the Bible is all about. I love that it has facts about how the Bible was written, who some of the writers were, and what the Old and New Testaments are. This is a wonderful book for young kids!

God Gave Us Family

My thoughts: This is a wonderful book for kids that shows that family can come in all shapes and sizes. I love that it shows how there can be more to a family than what you think, they are the ones who love and care for you. This book is darling! We have enjoyed the others in this series, but this one may be my favorite yet.

It is a wonderful reminder to the child in your life that they are so loved.

This book, with only about 200 words accompanied by delicate watercolors, is a great way for parents to begin to teach their children about this inspirational historical figure.

My thoughts: With MLK day being observed across the Nation, I think that this board book is a great way to show kids why we observe it. I enjoy reading both of these board books to my children and talking about how important it is to respond to adversity like they did. They didn't lash out, but they also didn't just roll over. These books are both an excellent introduction to important people in American history.

Take Ten: favorite picture books

As I have mentioned before, we read a ton at my house, which includes bringing home a huge stack of pictures books from the library every opportunity we can (my husband tells me that I probably get on the librarians nerves for checking out so many at time. I know the truth though. They love me, since they see job security when I walk in the door. lol). I will attempt to keep my list at our top ten favorite picture books.;)

I adore this one! It's such a fun, imaginative way to teach the ABC's and numbers.;)

2. Superhero Instruction Manual


3. Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs

I love the sarcastic humor of Mo Willems!

4. Monsters Love Color

This one is such a fun book on colors!

5. Dear Zoo

I don't know how I missed this one when I was a kid, but it's now a favorite at our home! We can no longer go to the zoo without quoting it.;)

6. Little Green Peas

All of the Little Green Peas books are wonderful!

7. The Dot

This one is such a great book for teachers, to show how some encouragement can go a long way.

8. My Blue is Happy

I love this one and how it talks about colors and the emotions they can express, but how those emotions can be totally different.

9. Hippos Go Berserk

I adore Sandra's books, as they are fun to read and my kids love the colorful pages! This one is an especially fun counting book.;)

10. Little Nelly's Big Book

This one is an adorable story about an elephant who is fairly certain she is a mouse, since she fits the description she found in a book.;)

Where Does Love Hide

In Where Does Love Hide? children are reminded that they not only receive love but have the opportunity to share love. Looking under the fun, lift-a-flap feature, children will see examples of everyday love opportunities. Each page includes a memory verse and an example of a way to share God's love. In life, children hear the words "I love you" repeatedly, often beginning before birth. However, because love is an abstract concept and young children are concrete thinkers, they must gradually learn to understand love by what they experience. In Where Does Love Hide? children are given the opportunity to see love in action and learn what love looks like. .

My thoughts: This book is an adorable little book that shows children the many ways that they can show love to those around them and how love can be shown to them. I like that it ties in being helpful and kind to others. Each flap reveals who they can show love and a scripture that ties that thought in. The illustrations are colorful and fun for kids. My daughter is loving this book!
I feel like this one is better suited to toddlers, since it isn't very long and doesn't have a whole lot written on each set of pages. So, it works well with a short attention span. It could be a good conversation started for kids that are a little older.
I like the note at the end of the book.

My thoughts: With a toddler, I feel like this is just the start of books like Junie B. Jones making it into our home!;) This audio book is so much fun. I know that Junie B. Jones is a huge hit with kids, so new and old fans alike will enjoy this audio book and the music that is included. This is such fun!

My thoughts: My daughter was thrilled to get this book in the mail a while back! She loves Veggie Tales, so we have read this one just a few times.;) I love the message it has, how it is simplistic and easy for young ones to understand. The book is done in classic Veggie Tale fashion, so kids of all ages should love it. Since it is a board book, I think it is geared more towards babies and toddlers.

My thoughts: This is such a neat book! I love that it has a variety of topics to interest kids, from what they Bible laws said about foods in ancient times to the major Hebrew holidays, from "how to profit from the prophets" to evidence that Jesus rose from the dead. I am thrilled to have this book on my bookcase for my children! The text is easy to read through, and there are tons of fun illustrations. I love that this book is a balance of modern and scriptural.

My thoughts: I really enjoyed this one! This book is a fun way to teach kids how to look at all the evidence and be able to figure truths out for themselves. The book has a more modern mystery for kids to work out along with the cold case for Christianity and figuring out the answers to some of the age old questions about Jesus Christ and His resurrection. I love that this book equips kids to think for themselves and to look at evidence, not to just assume things are true or not. Thus book is especially wonderful for the inquisitive child.:)

The Sacrament is for Me

The sacrament is the most important part of the Sabbath day-and our week. Teach your little ones about the sacred sacrament and how they can apply it in their everyday lives, from the playground to piano lessons. Help your children start each week right and understand the reason behind the reverence of Jesus's eternal sacrifice, love, and example.

My thoughts: This is a great book to illustrate to young children about the meaning of the sacrament and how it applies to each of it. I like how it talks about the most important part of taking sacrament, that we do it to remember the sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus Christ. While this is written from an LDS viewpoint on the sacrament, I was still able to use it to talk to my daughter about why we take part in the bread and wine once a month. Even if you aren't LDS, this book is a great one to use with your children, since it would help bring up some of the differences in different churches and yet some of the commonalities too.
The illustrations are cute and the text is fun to read, since it is lyrical. Over all, this is a great book for kids to spark discussion!

Two Children's books by Catherine Christensen

We love books at our house, so my daughter was thrilled for me to review something that is geared towards her age group.;) I love these two books! Blessing the Nephite Children is an adorable board book that shows how much Jesus loves little children and how He blessed them. It was a hit! I love to see her sit and try to "read" the book to herself or her brother. It has such an important message for kids!
The Holy Ghost; Discovering Your Extraordinary New Gift is a fun book of activities geared towards children who are about to be baptized or who have just been baptized. I love the variety, there are color pages, places to write personal testimonies, and fun games. This one is a little over her comprehension, as a toddler, but I think that it will be fun to start working on some of the pages, even if it takes a while for her to fully comprehend. It's amazing what kids pick up on.;)
Both of these books are excellent for young children! I highly recommend the board book for baby showers and toddlers! The activity book is excellent for elementary age.

My thoughts: We put so many pressures on ourselves when parenting, since we want what we think is best for our kids and hope that they will turn out perfect. This book was an excellent reminder for me that we are all imperfect creatures, but that God knows that about us and loves us anyways. So, I, as a parent, need to have some grace for both myself and my children. This book has so many excellent points. I really needed to read this one! I appreciated the reminder not to get caught up in the small details, but to enjoy this phase. The good, the bad, and the ugly.;) This book is not about letting your kid run amok, but about learning what is important and what can be let go. I highly recommend this book for parents of preschoolers!

My thoughts: This book is incredibly! It has so many stories to set the reader on fire to change the world and help make it a better place for children of all ages. I really appreciated all the resources included, since it is easy to get all fired up to do something, only to feel at a loss and not move forward to actually help. This book will make sure you won't have an excuse. A must for those who work in ministries, schools, hospitals, or have children of their own. Basically, I think everyone should read this book.

I think she likes that the sun or moon shrinks and is on each page. I enjoy the lyrical text and that one features a girl, while the other one has a boy, making them perfect for my daughter and son!

My thoughts: This is an excellent, extensive collection of information on when to feed your baby or toddler certain foods. I thought that it was nice to have all the information in one place, rather than having to go searching for it online and then having to worry about whether or not the sources were reputable or trustworthy. This book is concise and full of information and recipes! I like that they have information on allergies and common problems or side effects of foods and when you start your little ones on solids. This is a great book to have on the shelf, as a parent!

Busy, Busy

What a fun book to pull out for Spring! All the animals are busy and even Mommy is busy working in the garden. But, never to busy for some time with her little one. My daughter and I love the colorful illustrations and all the animals that this book goes through. It is such a fun book to pull out after the slowness of Winter has passed! The text is sweet and I love the adorable pictures. I like that the book has some different animals in it, like a mole and peacock.

Would a Worm Go on a Walk?

This adorable picture book goes through several different animals, asking fun and silly questions about things they can't do, like with the worm going on a walk or penguins needing parachutes when they fly. With each question, the author explain why the animal doesn't do that particular thing and how God made them each special and unique. My daughter loves looking at the colorful illustrations and learning about the different animals, like possums who play dead or lions not liking water. This is a fun book to read with little ones about how God made both animals and people special, just the way they are.

Bedtime Snuggles

This book is an adorable book to read with your little(s) at bedtime, with it's sweet rhymes that go along with the illustrations of different farm and woodland creatures, ending with a mother snuggling her little child. My daughter enjoys pulling this book out when it is time to get ready for bed! It is a great book to help your little one wind down and prepare for bedtime.
