Take Ten
1.Finding Me by Kathryn Cushman
This one looks like an interesting mystery about a young woman who finds out she has a family she never knew about until after her parents die. It looks likr an excellent mystery!
2.Buried Secrets by Irene Hannon
Another fun mystery in the stack by my bed.;)
3.The Tomb by Stephanie Landsem
I don't get a lot of book suggestions from friends on Goodreads, but this one came recently. And, from a trusted source. ;)
4.part 2 in The Journey of the Heart serialization by Colleen Coble
I'm not sure how I feel about this one, since the synopsis gives away a lot of the story.
5. The Pharoah's Daughter by Mesu Andrews
This one just looks excellent!
6.Summer by Summer by Heather Burch
With warmer weather coming, this one looks fun.
7. The Choosing by Rachelle Dekker
I have mixed feelings about her dad's books, but this one is dystopian, do I will be trying it!
8. The Persecuted by Angie Brashear
Another interesting looking one!
9. The Chance of Loving You
This is a compilation of novellas by various authors I enjoy, so it should be fun.
10. Maggie Bright by Tracy Groot
This one looks like a neat, historical based story.

A Heart's Disguise
The Civil War has destroyed Sarah Montgomery’s marriage before it’s even begun.
After Sarah receives word that her fiancé, Rand Campbell, has been killed fighting for the Union, her brothers and ailing father persuade her to pledge herself to Ben Croftner—despite her strong misgivings. But when Sarah finds out that Rand is in fact alive—and that Ben Croftner knew it—she indignantly breaks off the engagement and goes in search of Rand.
But Ben Croftner does not take rejection lightly—and a single woman with a sick father makes an easy target. When Sarah is abducted by her treacherous fiancé, Rand finally comes to her aid . . . only to reveal that he has been posted at Fort Laramie, Wyoming, and intends to take her there as his wife.
But could Sarah leave her dying father’s side for the love of her life? And what plans are forming in the jealous heart of Ben Croftner?
My thoughts: I have mixed feelings about this book being split up into 6 segments. Don't get me wrong, a serialized story can be fun, but it seems like the description on each part will wind up giving most of the story away in the long run. At least, that is what I felt like happened in this part.
That said, I think the story is an interesting one, asking the question of what would change for a young woman who thought she lost her fiancée in the war, only to learn he is alive and that moving on with her life should of taken more time. I like Sarah and Rand, and the villain is quite despicable. It will be interesting to see how the story plays out!

Friday Favorites
But I digress.
Here are a couple of my recent favorites!
1. Beauty: Redeemed
Some of you may have noticed, right under my banner, that there is now a page for Beauty: Redeemed. If you would like to know more about my new business venture, then please check it out! We just went live on our Etsy shop, which is exciting! It has been such a fun adventure to make doll clothes for the Bratz and Moxie dolls that my SIL is redoing to resemble little girls. I have heard so many mothers talk about not wanting their daughters to play with Barbie dolls, due to the unrealistic image they project. I fully agree, and think that these dolls are a wonderful substitute to Barbies! Not to mention, they are a blast to design.;)
2. A Sparrow in Terezin
One of my very favorite authors came out with her second book recently, and I had the privilege of getting a review copy. I couldn't put it down! My review will come out in early April, but I just had to put a plug in for it. You need to read this series!;)

The Wood's Edge
The 1757 New York frontier is home to the Oneida tribe and to British colonists, yet their feet rarely walk the same paths.
On the day Fort William Henry falls, Major Reginald Aubrey is beside himself with grief. His son, born that day, has died in the arms of his sleeping wife. When Reginald comes across an Oneida mother with newborn twins, one white, one brown, he makes a choice that will haunt the lives of all involved. He steals the white baby and leaves his own child behind. Reginald’s wife and foundling daughter, Anna, never suspect the truth about the boy they call William, but Reginald is wracked by regret that only intensifies with time, as his secret spreads its devastating ripples.
When the long buried truth comes to light, can an unlikely friendship forged at the wood’s edge provide a way forward? For a father tormented by fear of judgment, another by lust for vengeance. For a mother still grieving her lost child. For a brother who feels his twin’s absence, another unaware of his twin’s existence. And for Anna, who loves them both—Two Hawks, the mysterious Oneida boy she meets in secret, and William, her brother. As paths long divided collide, how will God direct the feet of those who follow Him?
My thoughts: I have enjoyed Lori Benton's first two novels, since they are rich in history and she does a wonderful job of not sugar coating history (while also not making her stories unnecessarily gritty). She does a wonderful job of walking that fine line, which I appreciate in a Christian author who writes historical novels.
So, I was thrilled to review this story from Blogging for Books, since the other two were so fabulous. It didn't disappoint! Her characters are well written, and the story gives you tons of new facts on what it was like to live back then. I like that she writes about a period in history that I haven't read a whole lot on!
If you are looking for an engaging historical novel, then I highly recommend this story! Even if you aren't into history, her stories are hard to put down.
I received this book in exchange for my review from Blogging for Books.
The Quantum Deception
What starts out as a calm night in Salt Lake City turns into chaos when a passenger plane crashes into the mountains. When reformed cyber hacker Tanner Stone links the accident to an ingenious Chinese computer virus, it’s up to him to prevent it from destroying the financial data of everyone in America! Thrilling, explosive, and packed with twists, this book changes everything you know about Internet security.
My thoughts: This is the first book that I have read by Denver Acey, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say, this one is quite a fun, thrilling read! It educates people on the very real threat of cyber theft, while telling an engaging story. I have read that this book is kind of a repeat of one of his other titles, but since I haven't read the other books he has written, I wasn't disappointed with the story! It has some delightful twists and turns to it and the characters are engaging. Two thumbs up!

Take Ten
This week's Top Ten meme has to do with the top ten childhood favorites that I would like to reread. This one should be fairly easy, since I have already been thinking about what books I hope to read with my daughter.;)

2. Chronicles of Narnia
3. Eight Cousins
4. Rose in Bloom
5. The American Girl books
6. Little Women
7. Little House on the Prairie (the whole series)
8. The Witch of Blackbird Pond
9. All of A Kind Family
10.
This list is a fun place to get ideas!
The Single Dad Detour
Tez Brooks knows those feelings all too well. He’s traveled that road with his own children after an unexpected divorce. The Single Dad Detour is the result of his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way. It’s a guidebook for the rocky road of single fatherhood, extending encouragement, confidence, and challenges, using specific examples from dads who’ve survived parenting and have hope to offer.
There are no unreachable requirements for perfect fatherhood here and no twisty theological mysteries—just authentic, down-to-earth wisdom from one dad to another.
My thoughts: I think this book is a much needed resource! Tez Brooks has been there when it comes to being a single dad, so this book is just what I would recommend to a man who has recently become a single dad. I love all the resources that he has in the book, from articles and radio sermons to his own personal stories. His humor was very refreshing, and I think that this book will be an encouragement to single dad's every where.

Summer Campaign
Miss Onyx Hamilton is about to make what everyone agrees is a perfect marriage-until handsome Major Jack Beresford comes galloping into her life. But with his fortune and connections, Onyx knows he'd never ask for her hand, would he? New and longtime fans alike will relish this delightful romance from Carla Kelly. Charming, sweet, and full of fun, it's simply impossible to stop reading.
My thoughts: I enjoy a good Regency style story every now and again, so I was more than happy to review this title by Carla Kelly gor Cedar Fort.
The story is a lovely one about a young woman who thinks she is making a good match based on what is expected of her. When the chance to actually make a happy match where she can be herself comes up, she must decide if she is willing to take the risksin order to reach for her dreams.
This is a sweet story with likable characters, though I had a harder time liking some of them (like Onyx's mother!). If you enjoy Regency novels, be sure to check this one out!

Halo Found Hope
Six days turned into eight weeks. She awoke to discover that she was not the same. She saw two of everything, couldn’t feel half of her face, couldn’t hear from one ear, and could not speak. She couldn’t even tell anyone that she felt hopeless... or could she?
Halo Found Hope is the story of a beautiful, busy wife, and mother of three whose life changes instantly with the diagnosis of a rare brain tumor. An exceptional ENT, a brilliant neurosurgeon and a dedicated medical team tackle the tumor, setting off a series of unbelievable miracles.
Helo’s story is not one of survival, or of salvaging a life through a broken body. It is not about endurance through pain, but victory because of it. While the family heard her silence, God heard her prayer. Helo’s story is simply this: Wherever you are and whatever you are going through, God is right there. He doesn’t need to be recognized by you, to be there for you. He can replace fear with courage and discouragement with determination, if you let Him. Helo did, and that is how she found hope.
Helo was once told that the chapter titles of Halo Found Hope outlined an inspiring journey. God’s titles to the chapters of our lives captivate us when we pay attention. Every individual journey is designed by our Heavenly Father. We need to listen to Him when He says, “Beloved, I am with you every second, minute, hour, day, week, month and year.” Sometimes when things get hard, we need to remember that He will not abandon us.
My thoughts: This is an incredible story of one woman's amazing blessing! In some ways, it is a hard story to read, since she is so open about all that she went through. It is a scary journey that must of been horrible for her and her family to go through, and yet they came out of the surgery, scare, and rehabilitation with the knowledge that only God could do the incredible.
I received this book from Lit fuse in exchange for my honest review.
More than Just "theTalk"
The old ways of having the "sex talk" just won't cut it anymore. Sadly, the number one place today's young people go to for answers about sex is Google. Meanwhile, kids view nearly 14,000 sexual references a year on television, and 70 percent of teenagers have encountered pornography on the Internet. If we want our children to know the truth about healthy sexuality, we need to create a comfortable climate of continual conversations.
Jonathan McKee will show you how to move beyond the initial awkwardness of this subject into an ongoing communication with your kids about God's amazing gift of sex. He equips you with what you need to talk openly about dating, temptation, porn, and purity, and you will find answers to tough questions and relevant Scripture on sexual issues.
It's normal for kids to be curious about sexuality, and they need to know that their parents are the most reliable source of information. Be the one your kids turn to on this crucial topic.
My thoughts: Where was this book ten years ago? I think this is a great resource for parents, since it shows what kids are exposed to now a days and how to help counter all the misinformation on sex that is out there. In an age where most kids have some sort of electronic stuck in their hand, it is so easy to be exposed to a lot of vile music and TV shows (among other things), and for parents to not even realize it. So much is able to come to their attention, it's horrible. I wasn't exposed to most of the stuff in the book until an adult, but I know I am not the norm. This is a wake up call to parents, to become more involved so that kids aren't going to Google or the media for their information.
Just a side note, I know a lot of people try to excuse the lack of morals in TV and movies (I know I am guilty of allowing more than I should in our home!), but this book reminded me of something I once heard: that TV/movies either portray life how it is, or how we want it to be. Think about it. Do we really want that sort of promiscuous lifestyle for our children? I hope this book will serve as a wake up call for all of us!

Better All the Time
Seraphina Darling has always struggled to stand out. With her weight issues at the forefront of her mind, Sephy prefers to place herself comfortably in the background. But when Sephy’s best friend and older brother announce their engagement, she vows to make a permanent change in her appearance and her life.
Meanwhile her younger sister, Amy, lands her dream job: coordinating the restoration of the community theater’s arts programs. As the deadline for the project’s completion approaches, Amy continues to run herself ragged, struggling to delegate and trust anyone but herself.
As the Darling sisters move through tragedy and triumph, between shadows and the limelight, each must find a path into the freedom of who God intended her to be.
My thoughts: I very much enjoyed the first book in this series, since the writing was fresh and the story an interesting one about a couple who deals with infertility. I love that the author writes very realistic stories that are easy to relate to. Better All the Time is an excellent follow up story! I love that it focuses more on Seraphina and Amy, one who hides her talents while the other tries to overachieve. I love that all the siblings are so different, so it's easy for every reader to sympathize with at least one of them.;) The writing is wonderful, the characters wonderful, and the story comes alive.

What is Lost
Angry at his failure to exact vengeance on the prince, mask maker Joch flees Venesia to find his lost love. When a red-cloaked assassin promises answers, he has little choice but to trust her-though he may be walking into a trap. Unravel the deception in this dazzling story of second chances that will keep you guessing to the last page.
My thoughts: I would imagine that it would of been helpful had I read the first book in the series, What is Hidden, since I would suspect that some things would of made more sense had I done so.;) That said, I think this book works okay to just jump right in, since it doesn't give away the story of the first book, which has different main characters.
I very much enjoyed this book, which is a retelling of Red Riding Hood, set in an interesting Japan meets Venice style world. I love that the author put a lot of thought into creating the islands to be unique, and yet somewhat familiar to what we know. I thought the characters were well developed, and there is an interesting mystery that is woven into the story. That said, the ending left me feeling unfulfilled. I feel like some things needed more of an explanation than what was given. I just hope we will meet up with some of the characters again and that the next book (is there one? Please say yes!) will give us some answers.;)

An Uncertain Choice
Due to her parents' promise at her birth, Lady Rosemarie has been prepared to become a nun on the day she turns eighteen. Then, a month before her birthday, a friend of her father's enters the kingdom and proclaims her parents' will left a second choice-if Rosemarie can marry before the eve of her eighteenth year, she will be exempt from the ancient vow.
Before long, Rosemarie is presented with the three most handsome and brave knights in the land. But when the competition for her heart seemingly results in a knight playing foul, she begins to wonder if the cloister is the best place after all. If only one of the knights-the one who appears the most guilty-had not already captured her heart.
My thoughts: I was blown away by this book! It is a fun story of knights, fair maidens, and old fashioned contests. I love how Jody Hedlund brought the time period to life with her compassionate heroine who thought her adult days would be spent sequestered in an Abbey to fulfill an ancient vow. The characters are wonderful, and I love that the story has some competition, romance, and a bit of a mystery. This book is an incredible new addition to the YA world. Be sure to check out the author's site for more info on her wonderful books!

Miracle at Higher Grounds Cafe
After a very public split from her NFL superstar husband, Chelsea Chambers retreats behind the counter of the Higher Grounds Café, an old-fashioned coffee shop in dire need of reinvention. But when her courage and cupcakes fail to pay the bills, this newly single mom finds herself desperate for help—or a miracle.
Then a curious stranger lands at Chelsea's door, and with him, an even more curious string of events. Soon, customers are flocking to the Higher Grounds Café, and not just for the cappuccino. They've come for the internet connection to the divine, and for answers to life’s biggest questions.
When catastrophe strikes, Chelsea finally finds the courage to ask her own questions…and heaven answers in a most unexpected way.
My thoughts: I enjoyed this story! It's an easy one to get into, and I like that it is a smaller book and easy to get through quickly, which is a plus for this mama.;) I love reading what others think of angel ministry, and this one is slightly outside the box, which is fun. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and loved the coffee shop! Two thumbs up.

How Many Times Do I Have to Tell You?
You’ve probably said these things to your kids, but have you listened to what you’re saying?
“I remember the day you were born.”
“Turn down the music!”
“This is going to hurt me more than it’s going to hurt you.”
“Hold my hand.”
Your heavenly Father wants to tell you many of these same things. Rachael Carman knows how noisy it can be when you’re raising children—she has seven! But this lovely devotional book will help you to hear God’s still, small voice amid the chaos of carpools, cut fingers, and carpet crawlers. You’ll learn how to recognize God’s instructions for you, even as you seek to follow His example as a parent.
My thoughts :Even though I only have one child, at this point, and she is pretty young, I found that this book had a lot of wonderful information about parenting and the relationships we have with those around us and with God. Sharing her own lessons she has learned through parenting 7 children, Rachael opens up her heart, sharing stories and scripture verses that have touched her life. The great thing about this book is that a lot of the subjects can be applied to not just our relationship with our children, but also our relationships with friends and other loved ones. This really helped me to pay attention to the things God has laud on my heart about the areas I need to work on. I appreciate the author's honesty, since I might not of payed attention as well if she presented her book like she has sll thr answers. ;) This book is a wonderful resource for those longing to deepen their relationships. Two thumbs up!

How to Catch a Prince
American heiress Corina Del Rey’s life was devastated by war. Every thing she loved was lost. But after five years of grief, she’s shed her grave clothes and started over in the sunshine along the Florida coast.
But some things are not so easily forgotten. When a secret from her past confronts her face to face, she realizes she must follow her heart. Even if it cost her everything.
Prince Stephen of Brighton Kingdom is a former Royal Air Command lieutenant turned star rugby player, trying to make sense of his life after the devastation of war.
When his brother, King Nathaniel, discovers Stephen’s pre war secret, he must deal with an aspect of his life he longed to forget. But how can he do so without exposing the truth and breaching national security?
Yet, true love has a destiny all it’s own. As the cathedral bells peal through Cathedral City, Corina and Stephen must chose to answer the call of love on their hearts.
Or let it be lost forever?
My thoughts: I've been a fan of Rachel Shuck's for some time now, having read a lot of her books. I think this one is my favorite so far! Probably because most of us, as young girls, dreamed of being a princess and living in a castle. I know I still like my "happily ever after" endings!
While their is loss and grief in this story, it also has a strong message of God's love and guidance in our lives. The characters are solid and I enjoyed getting to know them. This is a story you won't want to miss!

Take Ten
We have been reading a ton of books from the library, so I figured that this week, I will do top ten books for young children.
1. LMNO Peas
I love this one! I am a huge fan of text that rhymes when reading books to my daughter. This one is just fun to read!
2. Barnyard Dance
This is another one that is fun to read! (and, another one that I may have memorized...;))
3. Blue Hat, Green Hat
This one is a fun book to teach kids colors.
4. 1-2-3 Peas
This one is a bit different, since the counting starts to skip, and goes up to 100! Not to mention, I just have fun with all the little green peas.;)
5. I Had a Favorite Dress
I love how ingenious the mom is in this story!
6. The Monster at the end of this book
This one is just fun to read.;)
7. Happy Hippo, Angry Duck
I like this one for teaching children about different moods.;)
8. Little Green Peas
I promise that is the last Keith Baker I will post! Mostly because it is the last one by him about the little green peas.;)
9. Flippy Floppy Jungle Animals
I love how you lift each flap to reveal an animal, and then the set turns into an animal as well!
10. Lift the Flap Picture Atlas

The Promise of Palm Grove
A young Amish woman finds herself torn between the man she's pledged to wed and the man her heart desires in this heartwarming story of chance, duty, and choice in the face of love—the first volume in beloved New York Times bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray's new Amish Brides of Pinecraft series
Amish bride-to-be Leona is thrilled to be in Florida, on a mini vacation in the pretty town of Pinecraft. Her girlfriends think she's happy because she's away from the stress of wedding planning. They have no idea that Leona's real joy is in being away from her fiancé.
Edmund is a good man and will make a decent husband . . . just not for Leona. The more time she spends with him and his overbearing ways, the less she wants to be his wife. Her cousins are sure Edmund is the right man for her—and their certainty makes Leona begin to doubt herself. But when a chance encounter with a wayward cat brings her face-to-face with a handsome, fun-loving Amish man named Zachary Kaufmann, Leona's faced with two vastly different futures.
Leona must decide: Should she follow the path set out before her? Or take a chance with only the promise of what could be to guide her?
My thoughts: This is a sweet story that has more going on then first meets the eye. Leona is a lovely character who wins readers over from the get go! Life for her has been pretty predictable up to this point. But, now she is having second thoughts about the man she agreed to marry. Will a chance encounter with a young man in Florida be just the thing to encourage her to break things off with Edmund?
I like that Shelley Shepard Gray often tells a story from several different view points. She writes well and does a fabulous job of pulling readers in right off the bat. I enjoyed getting to know the people of Palm Grove, and look forward to the next book in the series (though, it looks like it will deal with some tougher topics).

If you do much entertaining, then this is a book that you need to have in your kitchen. Guests will be wowed with the appetizers that come out of your kitchen, from the everyday to elegant. The book is well laid out and has easy to follow instructions, so that even those of us who aren't superb cooks can throw a party with tasty treats.

Rise of the Fallen
A six thousand year war rages and now the demonic Fallen are coming for him—the one man shrouded in mystery. Only Validus stands in their way.
Validus is the last and least of God’s angels, but he’s seen much across the millennia since his creation. Empires have risen and fallen as angelic and demonic forces battle in a raging war that will determine humanity's fate – and the fate of his defeated brothers.
Eventually called to be an earth-bound warrior, Validus rises to a position of power and respect, commanding legions of angels through impossible battles and overwhelming odds. But when orders arrive from the Creator's most elite Messenger, he finds himself suddenly demoted to a task of apparent insignificance considering the fierce war they are waging against the demonic Fallen – the covert protection of one unbelieving man.
Validus soon finds himself on a mission that will push him beyond his abilities as he battles to protect Drew Carter, for the Fallen are coming for him. Legions of them.
As Validus races against time to discover why Drew is so important to humanity's survival, can he stand between Drew and all who would destroy him?
My thoughts: In some ways, I was kind of surprised by this story, since it didn't pick right up where the first book left off. It starts out telling Validus' story, so readers can catch a few on the history behind this Spiritual battle that wrecks havoc all around us. While I was anxious to get back to Drew's story, it is fun to read more about the authors view on Spiritual warfare. I love that each chapter has scripture verses to back them up, giving the reader a lot to ponder. This book is fiction at it's best, since it gets the reader to think and motivates Christians out of their apathetic stupor. While I don't know that I agree 100% with the authors views, it has encouraged me to do some research of my own. It has also reminded me that we do not wrestle against flesh and bones, but against principalities and rulers of darkness who want to consign humanity to endless torment with them.
I highly recommend this book!

Take Ten
This week's Top Ten subject is the top ten best books I have read in the last 3 years, which was surprisingly easy, since I have discovered a lot of amazing authors in the last few years!
1. Dandelion Field by Kathryn Springer
I know I have mentioned this one before, but it is one of the best books I have read this year!
