Clara's Soldier

A bride-to-be without answers.
A soldier who never came home.
A nutcracker that might hold one last Christmas wish...

World War II has been over for three months, but Clara can't join in the Christmas festivities with her friends and family. The fiance she sent off to Europe three years ago never returned. But just as she's about to give up hope, her godfather might just have one last miracle up his sleeve.

And it all begins with a nutcracker.

My thoughts: I loved this retelling of the Nutcracker! Set just after WWII, Clara waits for her fiancé to come home, all the while wondering when she should listen to those around her and stop doing so. One magical night sends her on an adventure of a lifetime that may help her make up her mind.
I loved that this one was a bit different from the other books I have read by Brittany, in that it was set in a historical time period with a bit of magic. She does an excellent job of handling some difficult subjects that go with war. I highly recommend this one!
