You've Got This

On the days when life feels a little less than amazing, remember: you’ve got this.
You do. Even when the dinner’s burnt or you missed an important event on the calendar or your hair has suddenly developed a mind of its own. Even when you feel invisible or misunderstood or unwanted.

You’ve got this―because God’s got you. Straight from the heart of popular Thistlewood Farms blogger KariAnne Wood comes this beautiful, pocket-sized, 52-day devotional. Full of warmth and encouragement, each reading holds Scriptural reflections, personal stories, and prayers to remind us that God is always by our side. He loves us when we feel unlovable. He lifts us up and gives us a peace that passes all understanding. And in the midnight of every dark moment, he is there.

The perfect gift for anyone who needs a little hope today, You’ve Got This (Because God’s Got You) will give you the inspiration you need to keep going―and to know you’re never alone.

My thoughts: So, normally I am terrible at following blogs, but I enjoyed this devotional by KariAnne Wood so much, that I had to go look up her blog! Her writing is so refreshing. I enjoyed her stories on entering the blog world, renovating an old farmhouse (I totally connected on these stories, having remodeled an old home!), and DIY projects. Written with humor and depth, she does a beautiful job of tying personal stories into thoughts on the scriptures. This is a wonderful devotion to start (or end) the day with!
I received this book from Tyndale. This is my honest review and is in no way influenced by receiving a complimentary copy.

Your Money, Your Marriage

God’s vision for your marriage is far more than mediocre, and money and sex are two of the most common tension points. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
In Your Money, Your Marriage, Brian and Cherie Lowe offer straight talk and power principles for getting your finances back on track so you can get back to your romance. Take it from them—the Lowes worked off $127,000 in debt in just four years, and emerged not only financially free but better together.
Join Cherie, personal finance blogger at Queen of Free, and Brian, family law attorney who’s seen it all when it comes to marital money struggles, in this journey to help you and your spouse go from different books to the same page. Through candid and hilarious stories, fresh ideas and practices, and a few winks along the way, Brian and Cherie reveal the secrets to “financial foreplay” able to help every couple thrive together in finance and romance alike.
You’ll learn how to:
Develop “passionate patience” with each other toward a shared financial goal
Identify unhealthy financial habits
Save smart on date nights
Sort through misaligned expectations as a couple
Beat the comparison game
Cultivate a stronger relationship on a budget of zero dollars
Couples share much more than a bank account or even a bedroom—they share a sacred union. Imagine what your marriage could be if you could put cash conflict behind you. Your Money, Your Marriage is an invitation to find out, and to thrive together.

My thoughts: Whether you are single, newly engaged, just married, or a seasoned couple (or somewhere in between!), this book is an excellent resource to pick up and get you thinking about how money affects our marriage and relationships. In pre-marital counseling, a big focus was on how we viewed money, since it can be such a dividing topic. This book will help you evaluate how you spend and view your money. I love all the resources and questions with each chapter that help to get you thinking and talking! I highly recommend this one.

Title: Christmas with the Cowboy

Series: Big Heart Ranch, Book 3

Author: Tina Radcliffe

Publisher: Love Inspired

Release Date: September 18, 2018

Home for the holidays

A second chance at love on Big Heart Ranch

Former Navy SEAL Zach Norman has been avoiding his ranching roots

and the woman he couldn’t
have. Back to visit his brother’s widow, Emma Maxwell Norman, and her adorable toddler twins, the
bah-humbug cowboy is roped into helping prepare the ranch for the holidays. Working side by side, can
Emma and Zach overcome their troubled past
...
and receive the greatest Christmas gift of all
—love?

My thoughts: I loved the story of Emma and Zach! They are such fun characters to get to know as they learn to work together again, after being childhood friends who grew apart as they got older and Emma fell for Zach's brother. Life has changed a lot for both of them, so they have to reconnect and figure out if they still work well together. The ranch they work on is amazing, with it's beautiful mission.
I haven't read the other books in the Big Heart Ranch series. I felt like this story is able to stand alone, though reading the other books will give a bit more of a background on some of the characters. I personally look forward to reading the other books in this series, since this one was so enjoyable!

Priscilla's Escape review and giveaway!

When faith and freedom collide, mistakes made in the past may decide the future.
Twenty-year-old Priscilla King is unsure about joining the Amish Church and wants to use her rumspringa freedom to paint beach landscapes. She’s been offered a two-month-long nanny position in Siesta Key, Florida by an author on a tight writing deadline. The opportunities presented are more than a little tempting for Priscilla, even if it means disappointing her parents and leaving her new boyfriend.
Stephen Hertzler grew up in an Amish family, but, like Priscilla, he’s undecided about joining the church. He loves Priscilla and wants to marry her, though he knows she’s not ready to decide about anything other than her summer plans. His biggest worry is that she’ll meet someone else in Florida and forget him.
When Priscilla’s parents sabotage her part-time job at a local fabric store to dissuade her from following a “worldly lifestyle” in taking the nanny position in Florida, Priscilla is distraught. She knows she would regret not taking this chance. Leaving a note, she sneaks out in disobedience of her parents’ wishes.
Free to paint, dreams she’s never fully envisioned before seem within reach…but at what price?

My thoughts: This book is an interest glimpse into life in an Amish family. Diane does a wonderful job of explaining some of their beliefs and weaving it into this wonderful story of secrets, growing pains, suspense, and faith. I enjoyed getting to know Priscilla and her family as they work through their differences. I like how this book explored her having a God given talent to paint and how that would fit into her choice to either stay in the Amish community or leave.
This book is part of a series, but works just fine as a stand alone title too.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit. This is my honest review.

About the Author:
Diane grew up on a farm outside Findlay, Ohio, and she often acted out characters from her own stories in the backyard. In high school Diane would read during classes and hide a novel in front of her in a propped-up textbook. After her high school graduation, she attended Ohio State University. Then Diane became a schoolteacher and play director. She met her husband while teaching at an orphanage, and they married three years later. It took her that long to convince him she was the one for him! While raising their family in southwestern Ohio, Diane started writing nonfiction and was published. Later she decided it would be a nice escape to write fiction. Diane was blessed with five daughters and one son. Two daughters were born with Down syndrome and live with Diane and her husband. Their other children live close by in Ohio so that’s wonderful. They also have four precious grandchildren. Diane published through a variety of houses. Several years ago, she decided to self-publish her books, so requested the rights back to her previously published stories. From the beginning, she enjoyed self-publishing her Amish romances. Diane gives thanks to God daily for her many blessings.

Guest Post from Diane:
Hello, Reader Friends,

Priscilla’s Escape is Book 3 in The Bishop’s Daughters Series. This story features Priscilla King, and she is the fourth child born to Amos and Lillian King. You may remember meeting Priscilla in my Dreams of Plain Daughters Series. After I finished writing this series, I decided to continue to write about the Amish and English characters living in Fields Corner, Ohio. They became family and real to me.
The King family have six children with only one son. That is like our Craver family because we have five daughters and one son. Through the years, our family has faced certain challenges with two daughters being born with Down syndrome. Although Priscilla doesn’t have any siblings with special needs, she feels overlooked in her family. It’s like she’s invisible to her parents, especially to her father. He doesn’t understand her passion for painting but favors Molly’s talent for quilting. Everyone needs a cheerleader in their corner at times, and Priscilla is no different. Fortunately, her new boyfriend, Stephen, listens to her dream to paint beach pictures. He even understands her desire to wait to join the church.
All families suffer some type of hardships. It does seem like some more than others. A family’s faith in God gives them hope in their daily lives. Whatever the level of the pain, staying close to God and listening to his voice, gives us the strength to survive. The King family have their share of tragedies, but their faith reminds steadfast. When Priscilla leaves their close-knit unit, they all reach out to her by letter and phone calls. Her siblings even tell their father that he needs to share his secret with Priscilla.
I hope you will enjoy reading Priscilla’s Escape. There is a lot happening in the King family, so you can catch up with your favorite romantic couples in this novel. If you love going to the beach as much as I do, I think you’ll love reading about Priscilla’s beach experiences – some are good, and others are not.

Dare to Begin Again

We all have struggles and challenges in life. Whether they are of our own making or not, things don’t always work out. Sometimes, we just give up on our dreams and goals.
But it doesn’t have to be that way! God is a God of new beginnings, and throughout the entire Bible, we read about people who were stuck, disappointed, and faced impossible situations—people God freed.
Rosalinda Torres Rivera challenges us to Dare to Begin Again. Using stories from her own life, other people, and biblical times, Rosalinda offers inspirational, down-to-earth advice on beginning again. Each chapter tackles a different issue where you may be “stuck”—such as an inability to forgive, trust, or hope—and examples of people who overcame similar challenges. Practical tasks at the end of each chapter walk you through a DARE challenge (Decide, Allow, Rise, Enjoy) to help you move closer to a fresh start.
Rosalinda is the daughter of Victor Torres, an ex-gang member from Brooklyn, New York, and his wife, Carmen, founders of the New Life For Youth ministry. She has seen more than twenty thousand people get out of tough situations and turn their lives around.
“They’re people whose tales of transformation prove God is still at work,” she says. “He’s written and re-written their life’s chapters—and He’s willing to do the same for you.”
It takes a commitment, but with the help of God, inspiring, true stories, and practical applications, you can Dare to Begin Again.

My thoughts: This book was such a wonderful, encouraging book to pick up! Rosalinda knows what she is talking about, having had parents who have made a fresh start and with working in a ministry that helps people start anew. This book is so encouraging. I love how it isn't just a book that you can sit and read, then forget about, since it challenges the reader to change with action.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit in exchange for my honest review. This is my honest opinion of the book.

Top ten books by favorite authors that I have failed to pick up

This should inspire me to tackle some of the books that have sat on my TBR list for a while! As usual, if you would like to find out more about the book, click the picture to go to Amazon. This post contains affiliate links. Thanks for supporting my hobby.;)

1. Ravenswolde

I'm ashamed at how long this book has sat on my Kindle! I need to remedy things and just read it, since I always love Charity's books.

2. The Lost Heiress

I kind of started this one, but then wound up jumping in with the second book. The rest of the series was wonderful, so I need to go back to the beginning!

3. The Painter's Daughter

I enjoy Julie's books, though there have been a few that have missed the mark for me. That said, I am enjoying her Tales from Ivy Hill series immensely, so I should go back and catch some of her titles I haven't read.

4. On the Fence

This may be the only one I haven't read of Kasie's books.

5. Until the Dawn

For some reason, I missed this one, but I need to pick it up.

6. Wings of the Nightingale series

I've loved her more recent stuff, so I need to go back and read some of her previous novels. I know I read the 3rd book in one of her series, but I would like to read it in order someday.;)

7. Wings of Glory

I know I will enjoy this series, if only I find the time to read it.;)

8. Dangerous Passage

I've enjoyed the Nikki Boyd series, so I need to go back and read this one!

9. Ghost Heart

Another awesome (looking) book by Lisa!

10. The White Feather Murders

I'm embarrassed that I haven't finished this series yet!

A Christmas Prayer review and giveaway!

Beloved, bestselling author of Amish fiction, Wanda E. Brunstetter takes readers on a journey in 1850 along the California Trail.

Only the brave—or foolhardy—would attempt a cross-country journey late in the season. Three wagons meet up in Independence, Missouri, in April 1850, and their owners decide to keep forging ahead despite many setbacks and delays. December finds them in the Sierra Nevada Mountains when a sudden snowstorm traps them, obscuring the trail.

Cynthia Cooper is traveling with her mother and the man she has promised to marry. But as Christmas is upon them and they are hunkered down in a small cabin, she is forced to reevaluate her reasons for planning to marry fellow-traveler Walter Prentice. When a widowed father heading to a California ranch and a gold prospector both show an interest in Cynthia, she weighs her dreams for marriage alongside her responsibility to care for her mother. Can love win over her timid heart?

My thoughts: I love this little story! The Pioneer era has long been a favorite of mine, so I really enjoyed the historical aspect of the story. I also loved the characters and getting to know them. I felt like Wanda did a wonderful job of bringing them to life, especially since the book is a novella and fairly short. I recommend picking up a copy of this sweet story this holiday season.

Prayers for the Battlefield

Help, hope, and spiritual strength for the mom in the trenches.
Moms today have a lot to handle! It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the responsibility of raising a family, especially in a culture that's spiraling away from Christianity at an alarming speed. Yet our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The battle belongs to him, and his strength shines bright when we bring our weaknesses to Him and simply say, "Here. I can't, but You can."

Prayers for the Battlefield is a collection of prayers and reflections to help you stay strong through the daily challenges of motherhood. Whether you're a new mom or a soon-to-be empty nester, Heidi St. John writes Scripture-filled and Spirit-infused prayers for every season of motherhood, helping you raise God-fearing children who will live out their love for Christ and make a difference in our world.

Let God determine the outcome of the battles you're facing today--because the ultimate victory belongs to him.

My thoughts: This book is such a powerful little devotional! I loved Heidi's book Becoming MomStrong, so I was thrilled to have the chance to review this book, since it works well to read it after it. While Becoming MomStrong is a reminder of the important call of a mother, this book helps focus on the scriptures and prayers that go with the different seasons and walks you may go through on your journey. I really appreciate the important reminders that we are in a spiritual battle, and as moms, we nee to be fully engaged in preparing our children to enter that. I love how encouraging Heidi is and highly recommend picking up both titles!

The Ornament Keeper

Award-winning author Eva Marie Everson wraps up a Christmas story of hope, love, and forgiveness just in time for the holidays. The Ornament Keeper, a contemporary Christmas novella, features Felicia and Jackson Morgan who are spending their first Christmas apart after twenty years of marriage. But a lifetime of gifted ornaments helps Felicia piece together the story of their marriage and the one mistake of unforgiveness she made before they said, I do. Can these memory-filled ornaments reunite this family before Christmas? Only time will tell.

My thoughts: On the one hand, I would of liked for this book to be a bit longer, so that the memories could of been longer, at times. On the other hand, the struggles that Felicia is dealing with suited the length of a novella. I loved the tradition of receiving an ornament for every year that they were married and how they brought special memories to mind for Felicia. This is a darling story of forgiveness and Christmas.

A Secret to Die For

Psychologist Grace Callahan has no idea that she has a secret--one worth killing for. But when she finds out one of her clients has been murdered, she quickly realizes that the computer security specialist wasn't simply suffering from paranoia.

Detective Nate Quinn has just been cleared for active duty after a bombing killed eighteen people, including his partner, and left him dealing with PTSD. His first case back on the job involves the murder of Stephen Shaw, and his only lead turns out to be an old friend, Grace Callahan--and her life is in grave danger. Someone believes Shaw gave his psychologist information before he died. Information they are willing to kill for.

With her signature pulse-pounding suspense, Lisa Harris takes readers deep into the heart of fear in this race against the clock.

My thoughts: I have enjoyed Lisa's other mysteries, so I was thrilled to have a chance to review this one. It didn't disappoint! It was hard to be responsible and not just binge read this book! I thought that the mystery was fast paced and full of surprises. There are some interesting twists to the story, and I like that it takes a while to even figure out what happened to Stephen and who is coming after Grace. I highly recommend this fast paced mystery!

Hope Your Heart Needs

Understanding more of God's character and how he loves us changed bestselling author Holley Gerth's life in beautiful, powerful ways. She realized that she didn't have to settle for "I'm fine" when there was someone whispering to her in every moment, "You're mine." The hope, joy, peace, and purpose she longed for were already there, in the heart of God.

Now in 52 devotional readings, Holley shares with women the answer to the restlessness they feel in their hearts that keeps them hurrying, striving, pushing. She shows them that "the God who scattered stars like diamonds across the velvet of the universe, the keeper of every sparrow, the maker of us all, is inviting us to draw closer to him. He is the place where our hearts can go on the hard days and the happy ones, in the highs and lows, when we are sad or frustrated or downright giddy. He is what we've been searching for all along."

My thoughts: This is a wonderful little book that is easy to pick up and read pieces of to encourage your throughout the day. I enjoyed how it is set up with each chapter focusing on something different, from some of the different titles God takes on to different attributes. The stories Holley shares are wonderful and encouraging. This is a fun little book to add to your devotions or study time!

Your Marriage Today... And Tomorrow

Build a marriage now that your kids will thank you for later
Your parents’ marital choices have greatly affected your own attitudes and actions in marriage, for better or worse. Your choices will affect your children, and grandchildren, and so on. It’s time to get proactive about your marriage legacy.
Dr. Crawford and Karen Loritts have been married 45 years and have spent the last 30 years speaking on marriage. This book contains their most successful, proven material. Interlaced with personal stories and letters from their four children this book will teach you:
the biblical and theological foundation for marriage
godly disciplines and habits that will improve your marriage
how to use your marriage to shape future generations
Whether you’ve been married 40 years or just got engaged, this book is for you. Your marriage will change the lives of countless people. Start thinking about the kind of legacy you’ll leave, today.

My thoughts: I loved the broad scope of this book! So often, we look at where we are at now, and not at the bigger picture. Crawford and Karen draw on their decades of marriage to share stories and impart wisdom to readers. I've been really feeling like Satan is attacking marriages and the family unit lately, so I thought that the message of this book was timely. I really appreciated how concise and to the point it is, making it easy for this busy mom to pick up and read through. I highly recommend this one!
