The Loch Ness Monster isn't the only recluse seeking a Scottish haven.

Bieldfell. Scotland, 1933—Falsely accused of murder sixteen years ago, American cowboy Benjamin Ford has chosen to hide out in the Scottish Highlands. Reclusive and not afraid to die, he rescues children out of an increasingly dangerous Germany. When his childhood best friend appears at his door, he's not the boy she remembers.

Eleanor Finch's life ended sixteen years ago. In one horrible day, she lost her dreams, her reputation, and her heart. However, she never gives up the hope of finding her friend, so when she learns of Ben's whereabouts, she leaves all that is familiar to convince him to return home.

But Eleanor isn't the only person searching for Ben. Hunters follow her trail. The thin veil of gossip and rumor may be their only chance of a future ... unless the Loch Ness Monster is real after all.

My thoughts: This was a unique story, since the hero has been on the run for over a decade for killing a man in self defense. When he and Eleanor, the girl he defended, are re-united, she tries to show him that he is not defined by what he considers his lowest point.

I thought that the author did a wonderful job of tackling some difficult subjects with this story, as well as a difficult situation. The characters are well written and I enjoyed exploring some of the themes in it. The story gave me something to think on of the changes that can happen in 16 years and how people don't stay the same. I look forward to reading more of the books in this series.

I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.

Canyon of Deceit

Canyon of Deceit JustRead Takeover + Review Blitz

Welcome to the Takeover + Review Blitz for Canyon of Deceit by DiAnn Mills hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Canyon of Deceit
Title: Canyon of Deceit
Author: DiAnn Mills
Publisher: Tyndale Fiction
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Genre: Romantic Mystery & Suspense

A rescue team searches for a missing young girl and suspects all is not as it seems in this high-stakes romantic suspense novel from the author of Lethal Standoff and Facing the Enemy.

When wilderness survival expert Therese Palmer receives a frantic phone call from former colleague Professor Rurik Ivanov, she is shocked by the news that his young daughter, Alina, is missing—and that Rurik wants Therese’s help finding her. She’s sure Rurik hasn’t given her the whole story . . . especially since he refuses to report the kidnapping to the police. Yet with a child’s life hanging in the balance, Therese can’t turn down this mission. She knows the clock is ticking and she can’t do this alone.

Therese reaches out to Texas Ranger Blane Gardner, whom she met seven months ago during one of her training courses in wilderness survival skills. Blane’s specialized training and background with the Crisis Negotiation Unit make him uniquely prepared for this search-and-rescue mission. He agrees to help Therese and to accept Rurik’s terms to keep Alina’s disappearance quiet, and as the two begin working together, Therese is determined the spark growing between them won’t distract from their mission to save Alina.

Traversing deep into the desert of Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Alina’s last known location, Therese and Blane struggle to separate truth from lies within the mix of intel they’re receiving. As they close in on answers that suggest the involvement of Russian organized crime and a high-profile international assassination attempt, they must fight to rescue Alina before she becomes an innocent casualty of a much bigger plot—no matter the risk to their own lives.

My thoughts: This mystery was interesting, since things start off in one direction, with Theresa getting a call to help locate a young Russian girl who has been kidnapped to finding out that there is something larger at play. I loved that Theresa is a wilderness survival expert, since her character teaches how to survive along the way when she and Blane seek to find Alina. My kids and I enjoy a lot of Bear Grylls style shows and books (my husband would rather be out there living it. lol), so this was right up my alley!
The action and suspense keep the story moving swiftly and it doesn't let up until the final page!
I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.

Love Between the Pages

Love Between the Pages JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Love Between the Pages by Natasha D. Frazier, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Love Between the Pages

Title: Love Between the Pages
Author:
Natasha D. Frazier
Publisher:
Encouraging Works
Release Date:
September 8, 2025
Genre: Christian fiction romance

Book lovers? Yes

 Best friends? Till the end!

Focused on their careers? Who isn't?

In love with each other? Well, let’s not rush things...

Lisa Atkinson has finally achieved her dream—running her family’s beloved bookstore, Between the Lines. With a supportive circle of family and friends, including her best friend Jayden, life seems perfect. But before she settles into her new role, a crushing tax debt threatens to snatch her dream away. Desperate to save her bookstore, Lisa cooks up an ambitious grand re-opening event to raise the funds she needs. Little does she know, the key to her success is hiding in plain sight—her best friend Jayden, who moonlights as the elusive bestselling author, Justin Love.

Jayden Reynolds is on the brink of a major career milestone, becoming a partner at his accounting firm. Exciting news, right? Except, he’s grappling with uncertainty about his future as he secretly basks in the success of his romantic debut novel that has readers swooning. As he navigates the wild world of love and ambition, he’s also realizing that he wants more than just friendship with Lisa—the woman who has held his heart far longer than he can remember.

As Lisa and Jayden’s bond deepens amidst the whirlwind of deadlines and pressure, their playful banter takes a turn toward something more. Will they navigate their way through the chaos and finally embrace the sparks flying between them? It’s a delightful journey from best friends to lovers, filled with humor, heart, and a dash of shenanigans!

My thoughts: I enjoyed the first book in this series, and had fun returning with this story! I liked that both of the characters are a little older and more established, though Lisa is taking over ownership of a bookshop. I loved going behind the scenes with her figuring out how to run it on her own.

Friends to sweethearts is one of my favorite tropes, since it is what my own love story falls into. I love the sweet romance that develops between Lisa and Jayden as the story progresses.

While I read Batch of Love, I don't feel like you need to read it in order to enjoy this story, since it makes a good stand alone novel.

I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.

A Scheming in Parliament

A Scheming in Parliament JustRead Takeover + Review Blitz

Welcome to the Takeover + Review Blitz for A Scheming in Parliament by Erica Vetsch hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

A Scheming in Parliament
Title: A Scheming in Parliament
Series: Of Cloaks & Daggers #2
Author: Erica Vetsch
Publisher: Kregel Publications
Release Date: August 26, 2025
Genre: Regency Mystery Romance

Evil is masquerading in the halls of Parliament, and Sir Bertrand Thorndike is tasked with investigating from the inside. With his new position as a member of the House of Commons, he has access to the power brokers of English government. His tactic is to listen and learn, careful not to reveal his true motives, and he's quickly inducted into the mysterious Theban Club.

Miss Philippa Cashel's mission, the Princess Charlotte Eleos School for Women in Need, is thriving with donations, and the students are learning skills to help them earn their livings in honorable ways. But when a dear friend's past is revealed by blackmail, Philippa must wrestle with the question, Is it ever right to do the wrong thing?

Bertie's and Philippa's missions collide when Bertie uncovers a dangerous plot involving vulnerable women. He and Philippa join forces against the corruption threatening to topple England's government, all while navigating their outward reputations and inward feelings for each other.

My thoughts: While I enjoyed the first book in this series, I think that I liked this one even better, since we have the chance to get to know the characters even better!
Bertie has settled into the new role that Marcus and the crown require of him, with giving up his former persona and getting elected to Parliament to figure out the underhand dealings behind a possible tax vote.
Phillipa has settled into her position at Eleos and the mission of rescuing women from hard situations. When a mysterious young woman stumbles into their community, too afraid to speak, she must figure out what is going on.
I loved the glimpse of Parliament, which was interesting without being dry. I feel like I have learned a lot about the time period through this series!
The story ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. I look forward to reading the next installment of the series!
I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.

The Engineered Engagement

A hidden genius, an ambitious shipbuilder, and a daring deception—can she prove her worth without losing her heart?

Eli Kennebrae plans to revolutionize cargo transportation on the Great Lakes. But his grandfather’s meddling obligates him to an arranged engagement. Though Josie Zahn is kindhearted and strikes his interest, Eli needs an engineer for his ship, not a fiancée.

Josie has admired Eli for years, but to him, she’s just “one of the Zahn girls.” Worse, society expects her to marry, not pursue her passion for mathematics and engineering. If she could only get Eli’s attention, she could help him achieve his goals.

Then “Professor Josephson,” a brilliant mathematical mind, provides the analyses to make Eli’s ship design a reality. As Eli finds unexpected kinship in the professor’s work, he remains unaware of the truth—Josie is the genius behind the numbers. When deception and ambition collide, will Eli see Josie for who she truly is before it’s too late?

My thoughts: This story is a beautiful one of a young woman ahead of her time who has offered her gifts to the Lord and it struggling to be the woman that He would have her to be. This story has so many wonderful lessons that the characters learn as they get to know one another for who they really are. I really appreciated the thoughtful messages on leaving things in the Lord's hands and not trying to hurry His timing along. This is a wonderful addition to the series and might be my favorite one yet!

I received this book from Celebrate Lit. This is my honest review.

About the Author

Best-selling, award-winning author of The Debutante’s Code, first in the Thorndike & Swann Regency Mystery Series, Erica Vetsch loves Jesus, history, romance, and sports. When she’s not writing fiction, she’s planning her next trip to a history museum.

More from Erica

One of the most frequently asked questions an author gets is “Where do your ideas come from?” The truth is…all over! But for me, the main place that story ideas start is in a museum. I see an artifact or object or hear a story as I wander a museum, and I begin to wonder about the people who used the object or survived the events that led to their story being in a museum.

The Engineered Engagement was inspired by a tour of the Great Lakes cargo ship the Meteor. The Meteor is a whaleback and is on display in Superior, WI, just across the harbor from Duluth, MN where the story is set.

I first toured the Meteor when I was eleven years old…awhile ago now. But many years later my husband and I took our kids to tour this amazing piece of engineering. The design, which is characterized by low rounded hulls, decks, and deckhouses looks decidedly odd and different from other ships. This design minimized the wind and water resistance encountered in more traditional hull shapes. The creator/design engineer of the whaleback was a Scotsman named Alexander McDougall who was a ship master and seaman on the Great Lakes.

The first whaleback hit the lakes in 1887, and over the next 11 years, 43 more joined her. One of the largest whalebacks was the steamer named the Frank Rockefeller. This ship was later renamed the SS Meteor. The Meteor hauled iron ore and sand for much of her career, and she is the only whaleback that remains.

As I toured the ship, learning nautical terms and all but feeling the rolling of the deck beneath my feet, I couldn’t help but admire Alexander McDougall for ignoring the critics, the snide remarks, and the jeers that always accompany a design pioneer and creating anyway. Looking for a better way to make something or do a task should be admired. He was tenacious, and I wanted to imbue my characters, Eli Kennebrae and Josie Zahn, with that same tenacity.

The Engineered Engagement involves ship building and hydrodynamics. Now, I know nothing about either of these disciplines, but I did glean some information, hopefully enough to make my characters, Eli and Josie, sound like they do. Ah, the joys of writing fiction! And while Eli and Josie are loaded with brains and tenacity, I also wanted them to have real emotions, to care about each other. One of the joys of writing fiction is getting to live through the eyes/hearts of your characters and feel what they feel. The Engineered Engagement was a joy to write.

If you are interested in Great Lakes shipping, I highly recommend the Duluth Canal Camera, https://www.duluthharborcam.com/p/canal-park-cams.html

And if you are interested in learning more about the SS Meteor, I recommend this site: https://superiorpublicmuseums.org/ss-meteor/

A Lady Divided

A Lady Divided JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for A Lady Divided by Sandra Ardoin, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

A Lady Divided

Title: A Lady Divided
Series:
House of Fire #1
Author: Sandra Ardoin
Publisher:
Corner Room Books
Release Date: August 28, 2025
Genre:
Christian Historical Romance

Just when she thinks she’s defeated the past, it returns with a vengeance.

Fighting to keep her late husband’s dream alive and her land-grabbing neighbors at bay, Laurel Tillman longs for a peace she knew before the war. But when her skill with a rifle saves a stranger from a mountain lion attack—a man whose life she once wouldn’t have hesitated to take—wartime memories rush back.

While raising her daughter and taking responsibility for the stray women who work on her sheep ranch, Laurel can’t wait to get the injured Yankee out of her house. Getting him out of her heart is an entirely different matter.

Quinn Spencer, a former Union cavalry officer, owes Laurel a debt, but his career as a new lawyer in town comes with a warning to stay away from the unconventional women of La Casa del Fuego. Then, with the discovery of a dead man on Laurel’s ranch, Quinn must choose between his career and justice for a woman who can’t bear the sight of him.

As they battle an unknown adversary who sets out to destroy Laurel, will she join forces with her former enemy? Or will she allow the past to overcome any chance of a truce between them . . . and, possibly, something more?

Meet the women of La Casa del Fuego—House of Fire—as they are forced by circumstances to live their lives outside the bounds of accepted femininity.

My thoughts: This is the first book that I have read by Sandra Ardoin, but it won't be the last! I loved how rich in both history and characters this story is. A house of women who are trying to make it as a family (by choice) in a war torn country. I thought that the historical time period was interesting too, with the character dealing with the emotional fallout from the Civil War, as well as the economical.  The characters are well written, with secrets and pasts that give them layers. I can't wait to read more books about the women of La Casa del Fuego!

I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.

Vanished

Vanished JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Vanished by Dr. David Jeremiah with Sam O'Neal, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Vanished

Title: Vanished
Series: The Vanished Series #1
Author: Dr. David Jeremiah with Sam O'Neal
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: June 30, 2025
Genre:
Christian Fiction

New York Times bestselling author Dr. David Jeremiah's theological insights are already valued by millions of readers. Now he brings that same depth to novels that explore the end of the world...

As leader of a special military unit charged with stopping potential pandemics before they spread, John "Haggs" Haggerty has a front-row seat to the sharp increase in natural disasters that precede the Rapture--including plagues, earthquakes, famines, wars, and rumors of war. And each crisis is becoming more intense.

Meanwhile, his own world feels like it's falling apart. He's still caught in the grief of messing up his relationship with his ex-wife, and he's trying to keep it together so that he can show up for his adult daughter before she wants him out of her life entirely. As both personal and professional situations push him to the brink, Haggs finds himself stretched further than ever in his desire to be the kind of good person he knows he should be.

Just when it seems as if things might turn around, Haggs is forced to decide between his need to find solutions and his need for personal redemption.

Vanished is Left Behind for a new generation--apocalyptic action and emotion that's infused with Dr. Jeremiah's perspective and compassion.

My thoughts: Imagine a world where natural disasters are coming more frequently and Covid-19 has had several more pandemics follow in its wake, leaving the world tired and on the verge of becoming a bigger mess. When John Haggerty find himself in the middle of a pandemic that starts to bring things to a head, it reminds him of his past relationships. I appreciated the message that passing off being "good" as being "Godly" isn't enough, no matter what the world around us says. Something John learns the hard way when The Rapture starts.

While this book is interesting and well written, I don't agree that the Rapture will be a thing in the end times. While I think it doesn't hurt to live our lives in such a way that we would be taken up if it were to happen, I think that our goal needs to be living a Godly life in preparation for living with God when we pass from this life. I feel like I should tack my two cents on since I don't want people to lose hope if there isn't a Rapture and we have to go through trials in the end times.

This is a wonderful book to pick up and enjoy no matter where you stand on the question of a Rapture. It leaves off at a bit of a cliff hanger, so be prepared for that!

I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.
