Top Ten Tuesday

This week's Top Ten list is going to be ten books I would recommend to people who claim not to enjoy reading. I could stick to a genre, but I won't, because that would be limiting for me. My taste in books is far to eclectic to stick to one genre.;)

1. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
Even though I was a reader as a kid, I started this book disliking it. By the end of it, I was a Lewis fan.;) It is easy to read and the story just grabs a hold of you, sticking with you long after you close the book.

2. The Hunger Games
Now, this one would have to be for older readers, because of some of the violence. A librarian told me it was quite a hit with younger readers, so I gave it a whirl (this was when it first came out). Oh. My. I couldn't put it down! I remember finishing it over at a friends house, hiding out after everyone had gone to bed, just so I could figure out what happened to Katniss and Peeta in the games.

3.One Realm Beyond
Another book I couldn't put down! I don't think you have to be a fantasy fan to enjoy this one!

4. The Safe Lands Series
This is an interesting dystopian series that I love! Perhaps I should reserve my opinion on the series until I read the third book, but I will give it two thumbs up anyway.;)

5.   To Kill a Mockingbird
One of the best books every.

6. Harry Potter
I know some people dislike this series, due to the magic, but I like it as a story of good beating out evil, against all the odds.

7.Little House on the Prairie
This series started my obsession with all things pioneer.;)

8. Little Women
Okay, so perhaps this list is more geared towards young ladies.

9. Stuart Little

10. The Thief
This book was so clever, and has so many twists to it! I like that the author is not predictable.

  1. I love so many of the books and series on this list. Particularly Harry Potter, which I think is excellent for pretty much everyone. The story is engaging, it's excellently-written and it gets darker and more "adult" as the series continues. It's also great that you've got some older and newer books on this list, as it evokes my own childhood and introduction to reading! I have yet to read The Book Thief, I tried but the narration made it tough to get into. I am determined to make it through eventually, though!

    1. Thank you! I agree that Harry Potter is good for a variety of ages. I love how the story line grows up with the reader!
Will you wait to see the movie until you have read the book?

    1. Thank you! Have you read many of Louisa May Alcott`s other books? I highly recomend Eight Cousins, Rose in Bloom, and An Old Fashioned Girl!

  3. This is a difficult group to find books for! But you never know what will change a person into a reader. For my niece it was Lonesome Dove; she moved from nonreader to enormous reader after reading that one book!

Here's my list of nonfiction you can't resist!

    1. You were daring to take on non fiction! I enjoyed your list and will have to read several of the books on it.
Oh, and I enjoyed Crazy Love too! I will have to look into the other religious books you recommend.:)

  5. Aw, what a great list idea! I am with you- I don't think people don't like reading, they just haven't found the right book :) These is a great list, because if they cannot find something they like among these fine books, well, there isn't hope I suppose ;)
