My thoughts: There is a sense of mystery surrounding Jane, as she begins to notice the strange happenings around her at Butterton Hall. I enjoyed the gothic feel it gave this story, as Jane is put in various situations and mishaps that throw her into the path of Ewan, who comes to her aid to get to the bottom of what is going on. I enjoyed the characters tremendously and look forward to reading the other books in this series! This one works as a stand alone, but there are some crossover characters, so I am sure that I missed some of the more subtle things in the story. That said, I still enjoyed the book and going along with Jane and Ewan on their adventure!

My thoughts: What a whirlwind of a story! I enjoyed getting to know the characters and A Breed Apart better through this story. 

Cathal is working for A Breed Apart with plans of moving on. When Rio and her dad put him on a mission to find out what happened to their family members in the rain forest of the Philippians, things get excited quickly! It was fascinating to read more about the rain forest! I could relate to Rio, since I am sure that I would be viewed as helpless in a similar situation. 

I love the depth of character in this story. Both Rio and Cathal are interesting, flawed, realistic characters that were fun to get to know. I look forward to reading the next book in this series!

Simon leaned forward and braced his weight on the table. “This investigation of yours

could get ugly and make the wrong people mad. You need to watch your back on this one, and

with Ms. Langston by your side, hopefully, you’ll be able to keep a level head.”

Mason was already beginning to regret accepting the mentorship responsibility.

Simon lifted the phone receiver. “Please send in Ms. Langston.”

A few minutes later, a soft tap sounded on Simon’s doorframe. “Here’s Ms. Langston,”

Ms. Carey, Simon’s administrative assistant, announced. The white-haired woman turned away

without another word.

Simon waved her inside. “Layla, please come on in.”

She strolled into Simon’s office and reached across the desk to shake his hand. “It’s nice

to see you again, Mr. Taylor.”

“Call me Simon. And this,” Simon gestured toward Mason, “is Mason Sterling. He’ll be

your mentor. I’ll leave it up to Mason to do what he does. He can help get you started.”

She turned to Mason with an outstretched hand and a smile as wide as Simon’s laptop

screen.

“I’m Layla Langston.”

Mason turned his attention to eager, expectant eyes. Soft, welcoming eyes. Eyes that he

found hard to look away from. He swallowed his lack of enthusiasm, stood, accepted her hand,

and squeezed, probably a little too hard. In his defense, the connection he felt upon contact

caught him off guard, and instead of letting go, he tightened his grip. “Mason Sterling.”

“Nice to meet you.” Layla smiled and loosened her grip, an unspoken way to say, Let me

go.

“And it’s nice to meet you, too. Come follow me so we can get you set up.”

He’d make an exception to his working alone rule this one time as long as Layla

Langston didn’t get in his way. Although Simon needed a story and Layla needed to learn the

ropes, Mason needed space to navigate his new life.

About the Author

Natasha D. Frazier fell in love with love around the age of twelve because of artists like Babyface, Boys II Men, Whitney Houston, and New Edition. Around sixteen when her mother purchased a romance novel and left it lying around the house untouched, Natasha read it and a spark for the written word had been ignited.

Natasha believes that writing is one of her purposes and contributions to the world. She feels accomplished when she can get a few words written and like blah when life gets in the way.
