About the Book

In a land fraught with religious strife, they must break the barriers between status and faith to forge a fresh future in a new world… After her Huguenot father is arrested, aristocrat Suzanne Richelieu escapes Versailles. Handsome German peasant, Johan Rousch, risks his life to bring her to the safety of his family’s farm in the Palatinate duchy, but when Suzanne’s brother and the French army arrive with a warning that they plan to burn the area, she and Johan are forced to flee. With no money or options, both become indentured servants in exchange for safe passage to Philadelphia. Suzanne falls gravely ill aboard ship and marries Johan, only to survive with no memory of the wedding—a reality made worse when Johan spots the “priest” who married them working as a surveyor and later in Quaker cleric garb. Are their wedding vows valid? When Suzanne’s former fiancĂ© arrives in port, planning to abduct her, Johan must save her again—but can he do so before Suzanne is lost to him forever?

About the Author

Carrie Fancett Pagels is a multi-published award-winning author of Christian historical romance.  Twenty-five years as a psychologist didn’t “cure” her overactive imagination! She resides with her family in the Historic Triangle of Virginia, which is perfect for her love of history. Carrie loves to read, bake, bead, and travel – but not all at the same time!

Guest Post from Carrie Fancett Pagels

Hi, I’m Carrie Fancett Pagels, so excited to see this particular book “baby”, Saving the Marquise’s Granddaughter, finally being “born!” I started working on this over eight years ago!

Would you believe it was a genealogical search that began this story? We had a lot of research on my father’s side of the family but not on my mother’s. Sites like Ancestry.com were getting big. One of my mother’s cousins posted the genealogy that he’d found, on one of the genealogy sharing sites and I got that information but only back to where I found two Rousch cousins marrying. I honestly didn’t want to go on after that, as it appeared they were first cousins – yikes! But after praying about it, and knowing my mom was curious, too, I went forward.

While I am interested in genealogy, as a former psychologist, I’m more interested in people’s stories.  So when I discovered that the two cousins were the grandchildren of Johan Adam Rousch, who had been acknowledged because nine of his ten sons had fought in the American Revolution, I wanted to know more about him and his family and ancestors.  Since there were books already written about him, I went up to the University of Virginia Rare Books Library and read what people had to say about the real life Johan. He sounded fascinating. He was an immigrant from the Palatinate of Germany and lived in the western part of Virginia, after immigrating via Pennsylvania.

I had joined the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) group and had been working on a novel set in the Charleston, South Carolina area, where I’d previously lived. I got so interested in Johan and his story that I began to write. But I couldn’t wrap my mind around Susanna, his real life wife who likely also came from the Palatinate, possibly on the same ship. No matter how I tried to work on her, through various writing classes I took, I couldn’t make her “real” because she just wasn’t speaking to me. I tried and I have the old scenes to prove it!

When I write, I pray. I asked God to show me scriptures for each scene, which were included on my rough drafts (they are not there in the final novel.) I did some research, at the library, and a massive tome about the Hundred Years War was recommended to me and one on European History from that time frame. By learning of some of the reasons the Palatinate was persecuted, such as the French punishing them for taking in Protestants, I began to imagine a different sort of heroine for my story. Of course, although the story was inspired by Johan and Susanna, this book is fictional. That freed me up for God to inspire me to make this story about faith. A core tenet of the book is that we must find our own faith – we cannot “borrow” it from someone else!

Since I was still practicing as a psychologist, as I developed Suzanne’s character I included traits that would be common in someone is the situation she was in. She’s living in an aristocratic French family, with parents who are actually of the Huguenot faith. If they are discovered there can be drastic consequences, including death. So a young lady like that may become more obsessive and compulsive as a way of dealing with that anxiety.

I hope those who read this story will be inspired by the message of overcoming and of finding one’s own path to faith in the Lord!!!

My thoughts: This is an interesting story about a time in history that I didn't know a lot about, the Huguenots persecution in France and how some of them were forced to seek refuge in other countries, so they could practice religious freedom. I like that the characters in this story are based on actual people.
While there were times that it seemed like the story bounced around a bit, I still found it to be an interesting read and enjoyed getting to know the characters as they went on an adventure to the Americas.
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
In addition to the giveaway above for the Kindle Fire, Carrie is also giving away a copy of the ebook on my blog. All you have to do is comment below to be entered into the giveaway!

All Summer Long

Tia Gets a Second Chance at Love When an Old Crush Suddenly Reappears
Though it means giving up the chef's job at her uncle's small town Italian restaurant in Washington, Tia D'Amico is thrilled to move to San Francisco to help her aunt with a new business venture: transforming an old luxury yacht into an upscale floating restaurant. The icing on the cake is that Leo Parker, Tia's crush from a long-ago sailing camp, has been hired as the yacht's captain. The only problem is that he's engaged to someone else.
Tia hides her feelings and rolls up her sleeves as she sets out to make her aunt's dream a reality. But as the tide turns on Leo's relationship, does Tia dare hope he might set a course for her heart?
All the romance of a summer in San Francisco is captured in this delightful story from an author who has made a career of tugging our heartstrings.

My thoughts: Melody Carlson's stories are generally fun and light hearted, which this one was, making them perfect summer reads. I enjoyed that the main character is a chef in this one, who is helping to restore a boat to start a floating restaurant. The characters are fun and I like that there is a fair bit going on, though I have to say that I didn't care for the romance in this one as much, since the story needed more development. That said, I still enjoyed it and look forward to the next book in the series!

Her One and Only review and giveaway

Romance Fans Eagerly Anticipate Every New Release from Becky Wade
Gray Fowler, star NFL tight end, is being pursued by a stalker, so his team hires a protection agency to keep Gray under the watch of a bodyguard at all times. When Gray meets Dru Porter, an agent assigned to him, he's indignant. How can an attractive young female half his size possibly protect him?
But Dru's a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt. She's also ferociously determined to uncover the identity of Gray's stalker. And she's just as determined to avoid any kind of romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past. But the closer they get to finding the stalker, the closer they grow to each other. As the danger rises, can Dru and Gray entrust their hearts--and their lives--to one another?

My thoughts: I picked up this one with some hesitation, since I knew that would be the last of the books about the Porter family, and I didn't want their stories to end!;) Becky does a wonderful job of wrapping things up with this story though, and should leave readers sad to see the series end, but satisfied with the stories.
After seeing Dru grow up over the course of her brothers story, it is fun to have a story from her point of view. I love the wit and chemistry between her and Gray! It's snappy and fun. I also love the bit of mystery in the story as well.
I also love the message of the story, living like we are forgiven and redeemed.
This is such a fun summer read!

Take Ten

This week at The Broke and Bookish, this week we are sharing the books that we feel differently about after time has passed. So, without further ado, here is my list for the week!

1. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

I'm kind of surprised that this story didn't scar me for life, since my mom (bless her heart) had my siblings and I watch an animated version of it when we were much to young to understand the symbolism behind the story. I remember sobbing when they killed Aslan, and it is very likely that I didn't make it to the end of the movie, I was so traumatized. So, I read this book, the first time, with a very biased opinion.;) Since then, I have decided that I love the story (and series!), I just wouldn't recommend the movie for a young audience.;)

2. The Last Battle

This is another one I read much too young, so I didn't appreciate that it is an allegory. I just focused on the fact that some of my favorite (since, by the second book into the series, I had decided that I actually liked the series. The only reason I stuck with it was because my aunt and uncle sent them to me, one at a time, for birthdays and Christmas' and I figured there must be a reason they thought I needed them. lol) characters died. It really is worth reading, once you have a more mature understanding of the deeper message.

3. The Hobbit

This one was touch and go for a while, but I finally decided that I liked it more than I originally thought.;)

4. The Fellowship of the Ring

This is another one that I didn't care for the first time I read it, since I got a bit lost.;) This one is probably better suited for older teens ( I was a bit young when I read it the first time).

5. Sense and Sensibility

I was an ambitious reader when I was a young teen! I tackled this one when it was recommended to me by an adult. I remember making lists of all the words I didn't know the meaning of.;) Kind of slowed the story down when you are 11 or 12.;) It was much more enjoyable just a few years latter (when I was around 15).

Books that I no longer care as much for:

6. Sadie Rose and the Daring Escape

As a kid, I think I was just thrilled to find another series set in the pioneer days.;) My standards have been raised since those days!:)

7. Nancy Drew

I loved them as a kid, but then started seeing a pattern to the mysteries.;) While they might be fun to read for nostalgia sake, the mysteries would quite disappoint now.;)

8. The Phantom tollbooth

I think this one may just be better suited for a younger audience.;)

9. Curious George

While I still enjoy reading these to my children, I find (as a parent) that it is kind of annoying that his getting into trouble is always resolved and looked at as a good thing. It's not a big enough deal for me to stop reading them though.

10. The Rose Years

Every Bride Has Her Day

Another Delightful Romance from the Queen of Romantic Comedy
Katie Fisher is ecstatic. Pro basketball star Brady James has proposed, and she can't wait to start planning their life together. She's confident she'll make it down the aisle this time--but it still may be easier said than done. A high-society Houston bride has Katie and the Cosmopolitan Bridal team scrambling to get the perfect dress done in time for her spectacular wedding. Will she ever manage to settle all of the details for "her" perfect day? Or will bridal shop chaos and overzealous friends and family make a mess of everything?
Fan favorite Janice Thompson gives readers what they've been clamoring for: another funny, romantic romp with a Texas twang.

My thoughts: Oh boy, most brides will be able to relate, at least in part, to this story! I know people are well meaning with their opinions when it comes to a wedding, but Katie has to deal with a hilarious extreme, with marrying a high profile groom. I love the humor in this one! The characters are fun to catch up and the book is a satisfying conclusion to the series.

The Quieting

Bestselling Author Delivers the Intrigue and Romance Fans Crave

She has matchmaking plans for everyone in the family, including David and her eligible granddaughters--and especially for David's niece Abigail. When Abigail stumbles onto a curious connection during her genealogical research, it could help David solve one problem--but will it create another?
Bestselling author Suzanne Woods Fisher takes fans back to Stoney Ridge, delivering the twists, turns, and romance they adore.

My thoughts: This story is a fun one! I enjoyed the chance to return to the series and Stoney Ridge. The main characters are quirky and fun, making the story a unique one that is just enjoyable to read. I love the meddling grandmother and the added intrigue of Gabby seeking to figure out the mysterious genealogy. Fans of Suzanne's stories and Amish fiction will enjoy this one!

Mars.... With Venus Rising

A meddling horse, paper bag floors and a flying saucer on the town square. The little town of Mars has it all--including a brand new resident who might spell heartache for one of its own.

Twenty-something Penn Davenport yearns for an exciting life in the big city and wants to shed the label of orphan that she's worn for years. To achieve that dream, she must pass the CPA exam then move away from the two aunts who reared her after her parents died in a plane crash.

When John Townsend-full of life and the joy of living-moves to town, he rattles Penn's view of herself, her life, and her dreams...which isn't such a bad thing until she falls for him... and discovers he's a pilot.

My thoughts: This one is a fun story! I never know what to expect with new authors like Hope, but I was pleasantly surprised with this book! The town is a fun, small community that welcomes John with open arms. I especially enjoyed getting to know Penn and her delightful aunts, as they try not to meddle (too much!) with their niece's love life. This book is a delightful taste of small town living!

Excerpt:
“I think she’s in love with you.”
Kaden shot Trev a dark look in answer to his amused tone and grin. Though Jace tried, he
couldn’t hold back his own amusement, even if it was at Kaden’s expense. He was just glad he
wasn’t the one Tina had set her sights on. He wasn’t equipped to handle that awkward situation.
Kaden grumbled under his breath and sat down hard on his bed, where he flopped back
against the pillow.
Aaron leaned casually against the doorframe. “She’s quite a talker.”
Kaden scrubbed his hands over his face and released a low groan. “If I have to hide in this
room the whole time we’re here, I’ll lose my mind.”
“Not as fast as you would out there.” Aaron gestured over his shoulder, earning a chorus of
chuckles.
Grabbing the pillow, Kaden chucked it at him. “A lot of help you are.”
As Aaron bent down for it, Rayad returned to the room from meeting with Anne and Kyrin.
The mood changed immediately, and Jace straightened. He needed to know about Kyrin. He
hadn’t slept well last night, not knowing for sure if she was safe. How could he protect her if he
couldn’t even be on the same floor as her?

My thoughts: I was thrilled to have the chance to review this title, as I have been wanting to read Jaye's stories for a while now and just haven't made the time. It seems like having a deadline, like reviewing the story, is the best way for me to make the time.;)
Once I actually had the title, though, I did worry about it being the third book in the series, with my not having read the two previous stories. While I know it would of made me appreciate this book all the more, Jaye does a wonderful job of telling the readers just enough of the previous books to keep one from getting lost, while still making you want to go back and read the previous books to know more.
I fell in love with this story from the get go! The characters are wonderful and I love the depth of the message of God's love. The story is in the fantasy genre and is set in an interesting world of rebellion and dragons. I look forward to reading the rest of the series!
I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Born to Treason

Joan Pryce is not only a Catholic during the English Reformation but also Welsh, and comes from a family of proud revolutionaries. But when a small act of defiance entangles her in a deadly conspiracy, a single misstep may lead her straight to the gallows. Now, Joan must navigate a twisting path that could cost her life, her freedom, and her chance of finding love.

My thoughts: I'm so glad that I picked up this book! The story is a wonderful, interesting one that brings to life the persecution that the Catholics faced under Queen Elizabeth I. Joan's story is one of intrigue and secrets as she navigates the new world of her hosts, where nothing is quite as it seems. I loved getting to know Joan, especially since there was a lot to her character. The author does a wonderful job of bringing her to life, since it would of been a hard time in history to live, with making choices between how to hold to your faith/religion and yet walk to fine line of not angering the officials.
I like that this story has a lot of subtleties, making it a rich, historical tale. This one is highly recommend!

One Plus One Equals Trouble

Purchase your copy here.

About the Book

Humiliated after her broken engagement, Claire Montgomery flees her comfortable life in San Francisco for a teaching position in Pine Creek, Washington, a dot of a town nestled in the rugged Cascade Mountains. She’s determined to succeed—for once in her life—only to discover, upon her arrival, that success will have to be won. Thanks to a school board error, two teachers have been hired.

When scandal forces professor Barrett Clarke from his position, he returns to Pine Creek where his uncle, chairman of the school board, sets forth an irresistible offer: teach one year in return for ranchland. For this would-be rancher, nothing is more tempting than resurrecting his childhood dream, and nothing can deter him from earning that land.

Except perhaps Claire Montgomery. Losing the battle for the classroom means losing the ranchland, but winning may mean losing Claire’s heart.

My thoughts: I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I thought I would give it a go. I'm so glad I did! The characters, especially Claire and Barrett, were so much fun to get to know! Their relationship was so much fun to follow, since they are an evenly matched pair when it comes to wit and knowledge. I loved learning more about the time and what it must of been like to try to figure out how to make a way for yourself, especially as a woman when you options where limited. This one is a gem! And, I love that we are introduced to some of the characters who will be featured in the next story.;)

Silence in the Dark

Two years ago, Bailey Adams broke off her engagement to Danny Maxwell and fled Logan Point for the mission field in Chihuahua, Mexico. Now she's about to return home to the States, but there's just one problem. After Bailey meets with the uncle of one of the mission children in the city, she barely escapes a sudden danger. Now she's on the run--she just doesn't know from whom. To make matters worse, people who help her along the way find themselves in danger too--including Danny. Who is after her? Will they ever let up? And in the midst of the chaos, can Bailey keep herself from falling in love with her rescuer all over again?

With lean, fast-paced prose that keeps readers turning the pages, Patricia Bradley pens a superb story of suspense and second chances.

My thoughts: This is the second book that I have read by Patricia, and I was once again impressed with her story telling skills! This one is a bit different from the other one that I have read, since part of the story takes part in Mexico before Bailey returns to the States. The story has a lot going on, at times it was almost too much to keep track of!;) I like that Patricia puts so much depth into her characters and that she revisits the characters from her other books.
This was the perfect read for rainy Spring weather!

Saving My Assassin

“I should be dead. Buried in an unmarked grave in Romania. Obviously, I am not. God had other plans.”

At just under five feet tall, Virginia Prodan was no match for the towering 6′ 10″ gun-wielding assassin the Romanian government sent to her office to take her life. It was not the first time her life had been threatened—nor would it be the last.

As a young attorney under Nicolae Ceausescu’s brutal communist regime, Virginia had spent her entire life searching for the truth. When she finally found it in the pages of the most forbidden book in all of Romania, Virginia accepted the divine call to defend fellow followers of Christ against unjust persecution in an otherwise ungodly land.

For this act of treason, she was kidnapped, beaten, tortured, placed under house arrest, and came within seconds of being executed under the orders of Ceausescu himself. How Virginia not only managed to elude her enemies time and again, but how she also helped expose the appalling secret that would ultimately lead to the demise of Ceausescu’s evil empire is one of the most extraordinary stories ever told.

A must-read for all generations, Saving My Assassin is the unforgettable account of one woman’s search for truth, her defiance in the face of evil, and a surprise encounter that proves without a shadow of a doubt that nothing is impossible with God.

My thoughts: What an incredible story of God at work in the life of the author! The book is a difficult one to read, as she shares her experiences of facing evil head on and surviving. But, the hard parts make her story all the more incredible. It;s amazing how God saved her life time and again, and how He brought her to a position where she could help others who are facing persecution.
This book is such an important one to read, since it is such a powerful story of one woman standing up for what she believes and how God has blessed her in the process. I think it is especially good for us to read and see how persecution for being a Christian is not just something in centuries past, but is still a threat in many parts of the world today.

The variety this duo provides for home kitchens is quite astounding, though I found that I will probably not use a lot of their recipes, since a lot of them just aren't ones that interest me. I do like their quinoa recipes though, and they do have some fun sauces! If you are looking for recipes on a variety of healthy dishes, then I recommend you check this one out!

No Neutral Ground, review and giveaway!

After his father divorces his mother because of her Jewish ancestry, Rafe and the rest of his family flee Germany. Years later, he returns to Europe… as a B-17 navigator. On the ocean voyage, he meets Jennie, an artist journeying to Sweden.

Flying missions against his former homeland arouses emotions that surprise Rafe. Despite being rejected by his homeland, he is troubled by the destruction of Germany and his heart still cries for his father’s love.

Sweden may be neutral, but it’s full of intrigue. Jennie assists the OSS at the American legation in Sweden. She thought she’d be doing passive, behind-the-scenes work. Instead, she’s pushed into an active role to gain intelligence and frustrate the Germans.

How can Rafe and Jennie succeed in their dangerous roles when they are so conflicted?

My thoughts: I find books about WWII to be interesting, as it was such a tragic time in history that was full of unimaginable evil and yet, people rose up and fought for what they believed was right and good, even when it seemed like all hope was lost.
I love that this novel showcases the part that Sweden played in the war, as well as the part of the pilots and use of planes in the war effort. Terri does a wonderful job of bringing history to life, and I appreciate the depth her story has not only in the historical details, but also in the characters. I look forward to reading more of her stories! And, I encourage you to enter her giveaway.;)

Fading Starlight

A Tale of Unexpected Friendship and Old Hollywood Glamour

Lauren Summers is hiding. Her fashion house internship should have launched her career, but a red carpet accident has left her blackballed. The only job she finds is unpaid, but comes with free lodging--a run-down cottage in the shadow of a cliff-side mansion. Unsure of what comes next, she's surprised to be contacted by a reporter researching a reclusive former Hollywood ingEnue who lives in the nearby mansion.

Kendall Joiner wants Lauren's help uncovering the old woman's secrets. In return, she'll prove the red carpet accident was a publicity stunt so Lauren can regain her former job. With all her dreams in front of her, Lauren's tempted by the offer, but as she and the old woman get to know each other, Lauren realizes nothing is quite as it seems.

My thoughts: I have enjoyed the previous books that I have read by Kathryn Cushman, so I was thrilled to have the chance to read and review her newest book! While I wouldn't say I was surprised by a lot of the events in the story, I really enjoyed the depth to the tale and the characters. The deep faith of some of the characters, which requires them to live out their faith even when it is difficult, is truly inspiring. Good fiction should inspire, which is exactly what this story is: a great story. I loved the glimpses of old Hollywood and modern day fashion designer. I also really liked the main character! This one is a winner.

About the Book

After ten years in the NFL, super star Gray Fowler is accustomed to obsessive fans. But when Gray starts receiving death threats from a stalker, his team hires an executive protection agency to guard him until the culprit is caught. Dealing with bodyguards 24/7 is a headache, especially when one of them is a young, beautiful woman. How can a female half his size possibly protect him better than he can protect himself?

Dru Porter is a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt–none of which saved her from disaster on her last assignment. In order to rebuild her tarnished reputation, she’s determined to find Gray’s stalker and, since relationships between agents and clients are forbidden, avoid a romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past.

Yet every secret that leads Dru closer to the stalker also draws her closer to Gray. As the danger escalates, they’ll survive only if they can learn to trust their lives — and their hearts — to one another.

Song of Silence

Lucy and Charlie Tuttle agree on one thing: they're committed to each other for life. Trouble is, neither of them expected life to look like this. While Charlie retired early, Lucy is devoted to a long-term career . . . until the day she has no choice.
Forced to retire from her position as music educator in a small Midwestern K-8 school, Lucy can only watch helplessly as the program her father started years ago disintegrates before her eyes. As the music fades and a chasm separates her from the passion of her heart, Lucy wonders if her faith's song has gone silent, too. The musical score of her life seems to be missing all the notes.
When a simple misstep threatens to silence Lucy forever, a young boy and his soundless mother change the way she sees--and hears--everything.

My thoughts: Cynthia does a wonderful job of bringing this story to life! In a world that is constantly changing, where there is no longer job security or loyalty, Lucy has been content to have found a job she loves teaching music and inspiring young people. When that is taken from her, she must re-evaluate her life and marriage as she struggles to remember who she is.
I could totally relate to Lucy, since I recently quite my job (which I loved) to stay at home with my children (which, I honestly, I love even more). While I have always wanted to be able to do so, it has been quite an adjustment! I can only imagine how much harder it would be if the situation were different and I wasn't going to something I enjoy more.
This is a beautiful book that is bound to touch your heart!

Anchor in the Storm

One Plucky Female Pharmacist + One High-Society Naval Officer = Romance--and Danger
For plucky Lillian Avery, America's entry into World War II means a chance to prove herself as a pharmacist in Boston. The challenges of her new job energize her. But society boy Ensign Archer Vandenberg's attentions only annoy--even if he "is" her brother's best friend.
During the darkest days of the war, Arch's destroyer hunts German U-boats in vain as the submarines sink dozens of merchant ships along the East Coast. Still shaken by battles at sea, Arch notices his men also struggle with their nerves--and with drowsiness. Could there be a link to the large prescriptions for sedatives Lillian has filled? The two work together to answer that question, but can Arch ever earn Lillian's trust and affection?
Sarah Sundin brings World War II to life, offering readers an intense experience they won't soon forget.

My thoughts: I have been anxiously awaiting this book since finishing the first one in the series! I love that that both books have captured the simplicity of falling in love during the complexity of war, with the added bonus of a mystery solved by plucky heroines and their dashing heros.
I was thrilled to find that this book was every bit as wonderful as the previous, if not even better, since it had the added depth of Lillian dealing with being a professional woman with a prosthetic leg. I also felt like this mystery was more focused, since the last one had a lot of suspects and was harder to follow.
If you are looking for a wonderful, well written historical read, then I highly recommend this one! I look forward to the final book coming out (which, I have to wait until next year:().

Sister Dear

All Allie Marshall wants is a fresh start. But when dark secrets refuse to stay buried, will her chance at a new life be shattered forever?

Convicted of a crime she didn t commit, Allie watched a decade of her life vanish time that can never be recovered. Now, out on parole, Allie is determined to clear her name, rebuild her life, and reconnect with the daughter she barely knows.

But Allie s return home shatters the quaint, coastal community of Brunswick, Georgia. Even her own daughter Caroline, now a teenager, bristles at Allie s claims of innocence. Refusing defeat, a stronger, smarter Allie launches a battle for the truth, digging deeply into the past even if it threatens her parole status, personal safety, and the already-fragile bond with family.

As her commitment to finding the truth intensifies, what Allie ultimately uncovers is far worse than she imagined. Her own sister has been hiding a dark secret one that holds the key to Allie s freedom.

My thoughts: This is the first book I have read by Laura. While I thought that the story does a wonderful job of being suspenseful and moving along, with bits of the story coming out from each of their points of view over the course of the book, I did get tired of one of the characters and the games they played. I also felt like the story could have had a bit more development with some of the relationships, and less details on one of the the relationships (which probably doesn't make sense, but I don't want to give away any of the details! Let's just say it would of been fine with me if the author had just let the reader know the way the relationship was without any scenes). I would still give it a 4 out of 5 stars though, since it is an engaging story with an important theme and some suspenseful twists. I will say that I am glad that I am not in the place of the main character.;)

Take Ten: Childhood Characters I would love to revisit as adults

This week, we get to re-visit childhood favorites and tell about the characters we would love to catch up with in a novella or novel.

1. Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie

This was one of my very favorite series when I was a young reader! I need to re-read them to make sure they are still amazing.;) It would be fun to have more stories about the girls after they grew up. They would each need their own story.;)

2. Madeline

3. Eloise

4. Fancy Nancy

This one would be more for my daughter, who loves "fancy fancy'.;) I think it could be a cute story though!

5. Molly

6. Kit Tyler

Another book that I need to re-read, since I remember adoring it the first time around! It would be fun to see where Kit wound up after ten years or so.

7. Nancy Drew

Okay, I will admit to devouring quite a few Nancy Drew. A story about her as an adult/30ish year old could be hard to do, since she has been around so long.;)

8. Susan

While she wasn't my favorite of the children, it would be interesting to see how her story turned out.

9. Ramona

I may look at Ramona differently now that I have a daughter of my own...;)

10. Meliara
