The Methuselah Project
Nazi scientists started many experiments. One never ended.
Roger Greene is a war hero. Raised in an orphanage, the only birthright he knows is the feeling that he was born to fly. Flying against the Axis Powers in World War II is everything he always dreamed—until the day he’s shot down and lands in the hands of the enemy.
When Allied bombs destroy both his prison and the mad genius experimenting on POWs, Roger survives. Within hours, his wounds miraculously heal, thanks to those experiments. The Methuselah Project is a success—but this ace is still not free. Seventy years later, Roger hasn’t aged a day, but he has nearly gone insane. This isn’t Captain America—just a lousy existence only made passable by a newfound faith. The Bible provides the only reliable anchor for Roger’s sanity and his soul. When he finally escapes, there’s no angelic promise or personal prophecy of deliverance, just confusion. It’s 2015—and the world has become an unrecognizable place.
Katherine Mueller—crack shot, genius, and real Southern Belle—offers to help him find his way home. Can he convince her of the truth of his crazy story? Can he continue to trust her when he finds out she works for the very organization he’s trying to flee?
Thrown right into pulse-pounding action from the first page, readers will find themselves transported back in time to a believable, full-colored past, and then catapulted into the present once more. The historical back-and-forth adds a constantly moving element of suspense to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
My thoughts: I'm not sure what I expected when I picked this book up, but I was surprised how quickly I was pulled into the story of a young American pilot pulled into a Nazi experiment on attempting to make man immortal. The story goes back and forth between the early 1940's and present day, following the lives of both of the main characters. An easy, imaginative story to read, this one is an interesting one full of "what if?". I enjoyed it quite well!

Girl Meets Change
Whether chosen and celebrated --- like going off to college or welcoming your first baby ---or unexpected and anxiety-inducing --- like losing a job or grappling with a broken trust ---all change brings stress.
Kristen Strong knows about change --- especially the kind you didn't choose or expect. What she's fought hard to learn over the years is that change is not something to be feared but something to be received as a blessing from a God who, more often than not, works through change, not in spite of it. Strong has learned to see change not as a grievance but as a grace.
In this hope-filled book, Kristen shows women how when we follow God's will, we receive blessings of contentment, purpose, and renewed strength. She encourages women to see change not as the end of their story but as the scenery for this part of life's journey. And she offers practical advice for coping with change in every part of life.
My thoughts: Change. It happens to all of us. Sometimes it is welcomed, but other times it brings grief or sorrow. In Girl Meets Change, readers are encouraged to see the blessings that come with change. Filled with personal stories and struggles, this book is well written and engaging. I generally like changes, but there are those times that they are not an adventure.;) Whether you see change as adventures waiting to happen or not, this is a great book for you!

Out of the Ashes
When Ashelandra’s father dies, she ends up a servant in her own house, instead of the Baroness she was supposed to become. But Ash’s secret sorcery could be the key to winning back her home and following her heart to a future she never imagined. This fantasy-infused Cinderella story puts a magical twist on a classic tale. Riveting and original, it’s a spellbinding read.
My thoughts: I enjoyed this story immensely! While it was inspired by the story of Cinderella, and is somewhat of a retelling of the old story, it is still very original and so much fun. The main character is quite like able from the get go, with her mischievous streak and knack for magic. I like how the story is told over the span of several years, making it seem fuller and adding quite a bit to the depth of the characters.
If you enjoy fairy tale stories, then this is the book for you!

Taming the To-Do list
Ever just wish the world would stop for a day so you could catch up?
No matter how much we accomplish in a day, we nearly always feel a little guilt over what we didn't do. But do we really have more to do than the women who came before us? Maybe not.
In Taming the To-Do List, Glynnis Whitwer exposes a seismic shift in society: from one in which most of us were proactive to one in which we carry the burden of having to respond--to every email, text, tweet, and message we receive. This creates a cycle where everyone else sets the priorities for our days rather than us directing our own lives. The result? We procrastinate, putting off the important stuff for later while we tend to the "urgent" stuff right now.
It's time to take back your schedule! Ready to tame that to-do list? This book shows you how.
My thoughts: Unfortunately, most of us find ourselves in the position of over committing ourselves and then procrastinating when it comes to making sure those commitments are met. With personal insight and stories, Glynnis offers hope for those of us who procrastinate.;) I like that she gives tips for readers to be able to determine what our true priorities should be. I also appreciated her myth buster.;)
If you find yourself bogged down with your to do list, then I highly recommend that you not procrastinate: pick up this book soon.;)

McKenzie does a fabulous job of bringing to life her fantasy series set in the magical island of Benotripia, bringing to life the story of Roseabelle and her friends as they fight evil and look to save their island from the Darvonians. God Made All of Me
“God made every part of you!”
It’s easy to convey the message to children that their bodies—or particular parts of their bodies—are shameful. This misconception fuels confusion, embarrassment, and secrecy, and often prevents children from recognizing or reporting sexual abuse.
God Made All of Me is a simply-told, beautifully-illustrated story to help families talk about these sensitive issues with two- to eight-year-old children. Because the private parts of our bodies are private, the home is the ideal environment where a child should learn about his or her body and how it should be treated by others.
God Made All of Me starts from the fundamental truth that God created everything and applies that truth—the doctrine of creation—to kids and their bodies. It equips parents to talk with both boys and girls about their bodies and to help them understand the difference between the appropriate and inappropriate touch of others. God Made All of Me allows families to build a first line of defense against sexual abuse in the safety of their own homes.
God Made All of Me is the first children’s book written by Rid of My Disgrace authors Justin and Lindsey Holcomb. Parents of young children themselves, the Holcombs regularly counsel victims of sexual abuse and are profoundly aware of the dangers kids face. Their simple and relatable story, designed to help children protect their bodies, will be an important resource for every family with young children.
My thoughts: With a young daughter of my own, I've wondered how to go about teaching her about her body and how to protect it. The conversation is a hard one to think about broaching with little ones, but is unfortunately one that needs to be discussed from a young age. This book does a wonderful job of helping parents talk to their young children about their bodies and how God made them special. I like that it does so in a way that very young children can grasp. I think it is good to open up the lines of communication from a young age, so that children grow up knowing that their bodies are made by God and not something for people to abuse.
I am so thankful for this book and think it is a wonderful resource for families and churches.

Hot Mama
It’s easy for us moms to slip into the habit of letting the craziness of our days interfere with our relationships with our husbands. We simply don’t have the energy or the ideas for a spicy, satisfying sex life. We’re usually just amazed we made it to the end of the day without collapsing or throttling someone.
Hot Mama to the rescue!
In this witty book, hot mamas Kathi Lipp and Erin MacPherson share hilarious stories and creative ideas from moms everywhere to help you build a relationship with your spouse that’s happy, healthy, and fun. From building confidence and banishing guilt to flirting (remember that?) and wearing clothes that get you—and him—in the mood, Kathi and Erin show you how to take your sex life from ho-hum to sizzling hot.
My thoughts: This is great resource for mothers! Both those who are new mothers and those who have had children for some time. While having a family is a blessing, at times it is hard to juggle your marriage, family, and commitments. In this book, Kathi and Erin are incredible candid and fun as they share some of the secrets they have found to keep their marriages going strong. They have some wonderful ideas and resources for keeping love alive and prioritizing. I highly recommend this one! It would make a great gift to new mothers especially, but there is something in this book for mothers of all ages.;)

Bearskin
When Conrad, Moiria, and Heppson’s evil enchantress mother tries to convince them to follow her dark ways, they must each decide where the line lies between good and evil, magic and mythology. Based on a lesser-known fairy tale, this young adult book features an impossible romance, an intricate plot, and twists you won’t see coming.
My thoughts: Bearskin has been one of my favorite fairy tales since I was a young teenager, so I was thrilled to have the chance to read this re-telling of the fairy tale! While there are a lot of twists that keep the reader guessing, I was surprised how dark this re-telling is. I never quite thought of the story in the way that it is told in this book!
While it is a bit darker than I care for, I think it is well worth reading if you enjoy fairy tales.

Let's Learn about the Lord's Prayer
In this first book of the HeartSmart series, preschoolers are invited on a playdate with Emma. Together they learn the Lord’s Prayer and practice “teaching” it to Emma’s favorite teddy bear.
Introducing HeartSmart, a Scripture memory series designed to create opportunities for children to fill their heart with God’s Word. HeartSmart combines key Scriptures with songs, giving parents a spiritual formation path for building a strong foundation of faith.
The entire Lord’s Prayer is included, along with a custom song (free download with access code).
My thoughts: My daughter and I love this little story book! I love how it opens up like a play date, with Emma interacting with the reader/children listening. Told in a way that young children can understand, I like how this book can be used to introduce kids to the Lord's prayer! If you are looking for a resource to help teach little ones how to talk to God, then I think this is a book to check out! The illustrations are sweet and the little girl in the book is bound to be a favorite with the little people in your life.

The New Pilgrims
Faith in America is experiencing a powerful religious revival particularly among Hispanic immigrants, offering an exciting opportunity for spiritual renewal. The New Pilgrims compares today's Hispanic immigrants to the very first religious immigrants of the sixteenth century the Pilgrims of Massachusetts. Castleberry describes the positive effect these immigrants are having, especially in terms of moral and family values, as well as more conservative politics.
My thoughts: I enjoyed reading through this book on how immigrants and helping to shape America's principles and values. When we have grown up enjoying liberty and freedom, we tend to take it for granted and not think about what it has cost. But, for those who haven't had such luxuries their whole lives, when they get to enjoy freedom of religion and having their voice heard, they appreciate it all the more. I love that this book is made up of stories of immigrants and their experiences over here.

Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn
A wedding brings together two young widowed parents . . . and gives them a second chance at love.
Emma Keim was heartbroken when her husband, Sanford, passed away, leaving her to raise three young daughters alone. Though several years have passed, her relatives have made it no secret that they expect Emma to remain a widow, mourning Sanford indefinitely. But when she meets Jay Hilty—a handsome widower with three young sons of his own—Emma is delighted to have a new friend who understands her struggles. Still, she is dismayed that her family is so opposed to their friendship—and the idea of it ever becoming anything more. She honors her husband’s memory every day, but is she destined to be alone forever?
Emma’s gentleness with Jay’s boys stirs something in his heart that’s been quiet for far too long. But when his oldest son becomes engaged to a local woman, suddenly Jay, Emma, and their children are swept up in wedding preparations. Witnessing his son’s joy, Jay wonders if it’s time for him to move forward, too, and find happiness again.
Once again, love has come to Pinecraft. But can these two parties of four become a happy, healthy family of eight?
My thoughts: I love how Shelley Shepard Gray makes her series flow together, making each book feel like coming home or catching up with old friends.;) This book is no different! She does a fabulous job of handling the story of two people dealing with grief and learning to love again. I like that there is plenty going on and even some humor along the way!

Intersection DVD
Follow the journey of five individuals as they tell authentic stories of circumstances that have forced them to examine how God might fit into their lives.
This five-week small group resource helps spark spiritual conversations. Starting spiritual conversations with those outside of the church is a worthy, yet often difficult and intimidating task. Intersect was designed to help overcome those barriers. It is an easy-to-use resource, perfect for sharing with co-workers, friends, neighbors, and family to enter into meaningful conversations.
Each film is accompanied by thought-provoking questions designed to encourage participants to examine the world in which they live and the life they are pursuing, always ending with a conversation on how Jesus intersects the current topic. Allow this powerful new film resource to engage those you are in relationship with and then propel them forward in their next step with Jesus.
My thoughts: This is a handy DVD for small study groups to use! I love that each video is fairly short (there are 5 in all) and have thought provoking questions. The subjects that are dealt with are trust, rest, control, expectations, and disappointments. While the DVD is kind of for the UK, it is also applicable in other countries, since the issues dealt in the videos are ones a lot of us can relate to. (I especially got a lot our of the one of the mother trying to balance working with life)
I think this DVD would make a wonderful addition to any church library or study group! It is laid out well to help get people talking.

M is for Manger
Travel through the alphabet with this beautiful rhyming storybook that tells the story of Jesus' birth. Begin with the angel who tells Mary that she is God's chosen vessel and follow along until you reach the zillions of stars that paled in comparison to the star that announced the birthplace of the newborn King. Beautifully illustrated and written, this book makes a wonderful gift for young children.
My thoughts: This book is just darling! I love the idea of going through the story of Christ's birth while teaching the alphabet. Each letter has a sweet illustration, description, and scripture verse, starting with the Angel Gabriel and his message to Mary. My daughter already loves this book (it just arrived yesterday) and has had me read it to her several times.
I think this book is a great one to have out through out the year, but I also like the idea of having several Christmas books out around the holidays that remind our children/grandchildren what the season is truly about.

The Columbus Code
The Columbus Code is just that the true, historical puzzle few could comprehend until today. Consistent with great historical fiction of our time, New York Times best-sell author Mike Evans pens a story replete with intrigue, adventure, and brutal persecution. The story begins with John Winters, an American Secret Service agent, who unravels centuries old truths about Christopher Columbus and the real drama that lay behind those famous voyages to the Americas.
My thoughts: This book had my attention from the get go! John Winters is a Secret Service agent on leave after going through a traumatic experience on the field, the whole story coming out over the course of the book. When he returns to his childhood home for his mother's funeral, he finds genealogy records that she left behind to try and prove that they were descendants Christopher Columbus. Thinking it is a harmless hobby that will keep him from getting bored on his time off, Winters soon sets off on an incredible journey.
Fans of Dan Brown and suspense stories should check this one out, since it is a fun story! It's easy to read and get caught up in. I like that there are a lot of players in the story and that the reader doesn't have the luxury of figuring out this mystery to fast.;)

Redeeming Pleasure
Pleasure. We hear about it, we think about it, and we look for it. Constantly. But why do so few of us ever seem to really experience it? Is it possible to satisfy our deepest cravings for lasting satisfaction? The answer is yes! But it might surprise you as to why. Author Jeremy Jernigan takes readers back to the very beginning and to the root of God's intention for pleasure. Through personal stories, practical insights, and a depth of wisdom culled from thinkers both ancient and modern, Jernigan reimagines pleasure and unmasks its deceptive allure.
My thoughts: We don't usually think of seeking God and seeking pleasure as being something that Christians should seek for at the same time. And yet, in this book, Jeremy Jernigan brings to light that seeking after God will put our search for pleasure in this life in harmony. I guess a better way to say it is that when we seek God, He brings us joy, which helps things line up.
Tackling difficult issues, I think this is a great book for Christians today. While the author is a bit more liberal then me, I still think he has a lot of great points in the book.

Take Ten
This week is a freebie, so I am going to go with an easy one. Top ten books that I will be posting reviews on here soon.;) I know, it is kind of like the TBR list that we get to do next week, but I think it will be different, since I have quite a few books to get through here soon.:)
1. The Columbus Code
I actually have to finish this one for tomorrow, since my review is due.;) It is an interesting read!
2. Out of the Ashes
This is another one that won't be on my TBR list, since I have already finished it.;) It was a fun, fantasy style read!
3. Taming the To Do List
I need this one now more than ever!
4. Girl Meets Change
I'm looking forward to finishing this one, since it is a story of hope.
5. Living a Beautiful Life on Less
I look forward to seeing what tips this book has, since my husband and I are both self employed. Financial books like this always pique my interest.
6. Hot Mama
These ladies look like they have some great ideas on date nights and the like!
7. Bearskin
I only just started this one, but it promises to be an interesting, fantasy read based on the bearskin story.
8. A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn
I can't say that these are my favorite Amish books, but they are still sweet stories.
9. The New Pilgrims
Somehow, I'm doing a lot of non-fiction here soon...
10. Redeeming Pleasure
I always enjoy seeing what others come up with for the freebie lists, since there are some creative souls out there.;) I'm afraid, after being sick on and off for the last couple of weeks, that I am not feeling too creative.:(
Q & A a day for Creatives
Q&A a Day for Creatives is your go-to source for inspiration, whimsy, and idea generation. Each page of this four-year journal features a compelling question designed to get you thinking drawing, and dreaming. Open the journal to today's date and fill in the appropriate space as you see fit. (Pencil doodles? Watercolor? Musical scales?) As the journal fills year after year, you'll own a showcase of your ever-growing creative output.
My thoughts: What a charming journal! I love the idea of drawing things every day, from the most random items that are every day, to things like what you think you will be wearing so many days from the time of you journal entry. I love that each page has four different spots, so each year you can see what you did the year before and answer the same question. It is a fun journal that will help one think outside the box and get creative, even if you wouldn't consider yourself and artist.;)

Last Chance Hero
The inhabitants of Last Chance, New Mexico, could not be more pleased. Dr. Jessica McLeod has opened an office right on Main Street. Andy Ryan, the best athlete the little town ever produced, has ended his short career in the NFL and has come home to coach the mighty Pumas of Last Chance High. Unfortunately, Dr. Jess immediately gets off on the wrong foot when she admits that she's never seen a football game, isn't really interested in doing so, and, in fact, doesn't know a first down from a home run. Meanwhile, Coach Ryan is discovering that it's not easy to balance atop the pedestal the town has put him on. When this unlikely pair is drawn together over the future of a young player--whose gifts may lie in the laboratory rather than on the football field--they begin to wonder if they might have a future together as well.
With the flair that has made her Last Chance books a favorite among readers of contemporary fiction, Cathleen Armstrong draws on the passion Americans have for the traditions of small-town high school football.
My thoughts: This story is the fourth in the series A Place to Call Home. While you can read it without having read the other books in the series, I think it helps the story flow better if you have read the other books, since the main characters from the first three books show up.;)
The story is a bit different then I thought it was, since the hero was hard for me to grow to like.;) Actually, I found both of the main characters took a bit for me to warm up to. The story is a lovely one that flows nicely though, and I think the small town feel.;)

The Memory Weaver
Eliza Spalding Warren was just a child when she was taken hostage by the Cayuse Indians during a massacre in 1847. Now the young mother of two children, Eliza faces a different kind of dislocation; her impulsive husband wants them to make a new start in another territory, which will mean leaving her beloved home and her departed mother's grave--and returning to the land of her captivity. Eliza longs to know how her mother, an early missionary to the Nez Perce Indians, dealt with the challenges of life with a sometimes difficult husband and with her daughter's captivity.
When Eliza is finally given her mother's diary, she is stunned to find that her own memories are not necessarily the whole story of what happened. Can she lay the dark past to rest and move on? Or will her childhood memories always hold her hostage?
Based on true events, The Memory Weaver is New York Times bestselling author Jane Kirkpatrick's latest literary journey into the past, where threads of western landscapes, family, and faith weave a tapestry of hope inside every pioneering woman's heart. Readers will find themselves swept up in this emotional story of the memories that entangle us and the healing that awaits us when we bravely unravel the threads of the past.Eliza Spalding Warren was just a child when she was taken hostage by the Cayuse Indians during a massacre in 1847. Finding Peace
About the book:
What can you do when family members turn away from your cherished faith? How can you move from such powerful disappointment to a place of peace? This book takes a thoughtful look at how you can face your new reality, hold on to hope, and stay connected with children who exercise agency in ways you would not choose for them. Uplifting and encouraging, this book is perfect for helping parents and grandparents alike to find the seemingly elusive peace they seek.
About the author:
Robin Zenger Baker has a psychology degree from Stanford University, an Organizational Behavior Master’s degree from BYU, and a PhD in Organizational Strategy from UCLA. She is currently studying Family Therapy and Counseling at UMass Boston. She has written for the Ensign magazine, and has edited and co-authored multiple publications in the field of organizational behavior. She is a past president of the BYU Alumni Association Boston chapter, and currently works to raise funds for local inner city youth to attend church schools.
My thoughts: While a lot of the books from Cedar Fort carry over well to other denominations, I would say that this book is not one of them. This book is geared towards the LDS church and what parents go through when their children leave the church. While there are some themes that carry over well, like sharing your testimony of the Lord when the time is right and finding joy in your children growing up to be good, moral people despite not sticking with church, overall it addresses a lot of the LDS beliefs and how the church is handling being in a changing world where young people want to go with whatever ideas seem progressive (never mind that a lot of them have been around since the dawn of time and a lot of the arguments are old as well, but I digress). I think this is a great resource for struggling parents.

Israel's Mission
What’s your mission?
God gave the assignment to His people thousands of years ago: to bring “lost sheep” back into the love and safety of His kingdom. He said to become a “Kingdom of Priests,” and put God on display to show the world what He is like. It’s still our task today. In this thirteenth volume of the That the World May Know ® film series, you’ll glimpse the urgency and rewards of welcoming the strangers and prodigals the Lord longs to embrace. Discover the mission that can give your life – and the lives of those around you – greater meaning than you ever imagined.
Join renowned teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan as he guides you through the lands of the Bible. In each lesson, Vander Laan illuminates the historical, geographical, and cultural context of the sacred Scriptures. Filmed on location in the Middle East and elsewhere, the That the World May Know ® film series will transform your understanding of God and challenge you to be a true follower of Jesus.
Designed for use with That the World May Know ®: Israel’s Mission Discovery Guide.
Filmed on location at these biblically significant sites in Israel and Jordan:
—Back to the Father’s House – Negev Desert
—Show Them the Way – Timnah
—Prodigal Sons and Daughters – Qatzrin
—Return from the Far Off Country – Jerash
—Welcome Home – Qatzrin
My thoughts: I love the opportunity to "travel" to Israel through the DVD, since it was filmed on location. It has often been a dream of mine to go to on a trip to Israel and see the sights that I have read about in my Bible.
This is an excellent study that brings the Bible to life through a study guide and DVD. It is a great resource that is interesting and engaging!

The Chase
Kyle and Kelsey Kupecky couldn't have dreamed a better love story for themselves had it been scripted by a bestselling novelist like Kelsey's mom, Karen Kingsbury. In fact, if you asked them, Kyle and Kelsey would name God as the author of their story. And they're glad they trusted him to write it for them.
Unfortunately, too many girls hoping for their own happily-ever-after have taken matters into their own hands, chasing after boys when they should be chasing after God. And that inevitably leads to heartache, low self-esteem, and poor choices as girls give in to pressure from media and peers to look and act a certain way to attract guys.
Kyle and Kelsey want girls to know that it's never too late to trust God with their love lives, that wherever they are, there's always hope for the future. Through their own story and the stories of others who long for love, they show girls how to put God first, how to value and protect their purity, how to deal with loneliness and bullying, and how to see themselves as God does--a one-in-a-million girl who deserves no less than God's best.
My thoughts: This book is an excellent resource for young people who are dreaming of their happy ever after! I love how Kyle and Kelsey tell their own story and share about how pursuing after God lead them to find one another. The encouragement they share and insight on what quality guys are really looking for in a girl are spot on. This is a great book for young women to read, since it is encouraging. I highly recommend it!

Gather Round the Amish Table
Straight from Amish kitchens to yours, this cookbook offers favorite family recipes and charming stories from Amish and Mennonite cooks. Bake the pecan rolls that taste best after an ice-skating party, or try the hoagies that a community sold to help an Amish family with hospital bills. Discover the cocoa cupcakes with instructions to “stir by hand” that one young cook took literally, or whip up the whoopie pies that one Amish woman took to market in her horse and buggy.
These cherished recipes speak of comforting traditions, lively communities, and strong Christian faith. Gather your family around the table to sample the nourishing fare and trademark charm of the plain people. In the words of one cookbook contributor: “Bake someone happy!”
My thoughts: I was thrilled to receive this cookbook! It arrived at a perfect time, with the Autumn like weather moving in (aka, baking weather!). I love to bake, so I especially appreciate the recipes for things like soft pretzels, doughnuts, and pumpkin cookies, but the book has a fun variety of casseroles, soups, breakfast items, spreads, drinks, and salads. I like that the recipes are easy to follow and often have an excellent picture to accompany it. I look forward to using this cookbook for years to come! If you are wanting to make some home style dishes this Fall/Winter, I highly recommend this cookbook!

Festive Feasts
Tender prime rib, decadent cakes, and caramel popcorn that will have you licking the bowl-these holiday recipes are perfect for parties, neighbor gifts, and family gatherings. Jeni Scott has been featured by Woman’s Day, KSL Studio 5, and all over the Internet for her mouthwatering and easy-to-make holiday meals. So forget the fruitcake-these treats are so tasty you’ll want to start all-new traditions!
My thoughts: For holiday meals, we often get stuck in a rut. Granted, there is a reason that we make certain dishes year after year, since they are family favorites that bring back good memories and are just delicious dishes. But, sometimes it is nice to make some new dishes and change things up just a bit. With Festive Feasts we are given a fun variety of new dishes to try out at our holiday meals. I love the variety of holidays and dishes that this cookbook has in it! From beverages to starters, main dishes to desserts, this book is a fun way to add some new favorites to the holidays.
I also love that there are recipes for sharing/gift giving.
Some of the recipes from this book are bound to make an appearance at our holiday dinners.;)

The Big Pig Stampede
Goat Boy, a.k.a. Gideon, is the kid everyone loves to pick on. He’s like any typical Bible-time boy who spends his life traveling around Palestine milking goats, giving Roman soldiers a hard time, and getting into trouble on more than one occasion. Goat Boy is curious, enjoys a good adventure, and has a couple of mildly irritating friends. What’s not so typical is how he and his friends are in the right place at the right time to witness the amazing miracles and teachings of Jesus.
Witty, insightful, wacky. These are just a few words to describe Bob Hartman’s latest chapter-book series, Goat Boy Chronicles. In this unique collection of stories, Goat Boy and his friends experience the miracles of Jesus through their awkward adolescent eyes. The boys laugh, they make jokes, they observe, they puzzle over everything that Jesus does, and in their own quirky ways they become the eyes and ears of the reader as they witness the unfolding of the gospel story.
Bob Hartman’s passion is to retell Bible stories accurately and in a way that will help kids want to read them time and time again. Not just because the stories are “good for them” but because they are so creative, so clever, and so enthralling that they just can’t help themselves!
My thoughts: What a great way to get kids excited about Biblical events! I wasn't sure what to expect when I had a copy of this book sent to me to review, but it surpassed any expectations I had! Written in the style of popular series like Big Nate and Diary of a Wimpy Kid, this series is a fun way for middle school age kids to get a fresh perspective of the ministry of Jesus. I love that it is written from a young boy's perspective and that the book has several of Jesus' miracles in it. I highly recommend the book for young readers! The only slight downside is how Gideon and his brother treat one another, but it is a slight downside.

When Beauty is a Beast
We have no qualms laying out men’s sins—especially abusive behavior. But we’ve avoided “going there” when it comes to women. This book offers advice to heal marriages and families where women display controlling behavior or create fear. It will help turn crumbling relationships into partnerships of love and trust.
My thoughts: This book provides a unique view on the relationship between a husband and wife and the tactics that women can use to control their marriage. Some of the things one will learn to avoid in this book:
Controlling your spouse
Using all forms of abuse
Transferring blame
Setting unreasonable expectations
Creating doubts or fear.
None of us are perfect, and I appreciated that this book points out some different things that a wife can struggle with. Whether or not they are full blown faults or just the start of a bad habit. This book was eye opening and would be a great resource for any young adult or grown woman who is looking to start a marriage with good habits or trying to learn to get past old habits that are unhealthy.
